*** Official Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Thread ***

My Son who is a Pro CSS player would disagree but I really do think by now Counterstrike should at least look as good as COD but keep it's traditional gameplay and maybe add some new objectives etc.

I'm quite interested to hear your son's thoughts - which aspect of CSGO actually looks better than CSS? I literally can't see anything. The models and maps have taken a graphical step-down, as have the HuD. It's all a complete retrograde hackjob to me.

There are no pro players in the Source scene, there has never been enough money to sustain it. What is your son's alias and team?

My Sons alias is Shaney and is current team is Visualize Your Enmity and he will be at i44 this week. I say current because he moves around allot!, Teams I know he's been part of include Rasta XD, Team Dignitas, Fish 123 and more.

He's been sponsored and won money for gaming, He also gets his ticket and accommodation paid for most of the time at various lans (does this not make him a pro gamer?)

I spoke with him briefly about GO and I get the impression that he doesn't want it and would prefer to have basic graphics and would rather them not tamper with the game. He also feels the original CS is better but he moved over to CSS when his friends did.

I will ask him properly what he thinks on CSGO tomorrow.

I think all top CSS players feel this way, and I can understand why. Gamers don't like it when they invest thousands of hours into a single game, only to have the community divided and the limelight taken off them when a new derivation comes out. Unfortunately for them Valve need to make money from sales of new games, that's just the way it is.

All I can say is, as someone who has only just started playing CSS (probably only about 100 hours so far!) it is an extremely hard game to get into from scratch. All popular public servers are 32 player minimum i.e. a massive spamfest - you can get your aim better, but it doesn't improve you much as a competitive player. So I tried a 5 on 5 mix via cssmixes.co.uk and I got absolutely demolished. I think I got 2 kills and I had no idea what I was doing :p My point is there is NO middle ground - CSGO should fix this for competitive/casual players such as myself with the matchmaking etc.

TL;DR hardcore players can keep CSS, but I want something new that will let me play a competitive game without the aggravation :D

Also it's worth remembering that Valve generally don't release BAD games :)

The same things are bing spouted about CS:GO as was said about CS:S when it was released back in 2004. CS players have always had a hard time coming to terms with changes as it's being around for so long (i've played since '99) and unlike other commercial titles does not get huge yearly releases ruining it for everyone.

CS:GO could be great as the developers are asking the community what they want (like the used to before CS went retail back in 2000) and although loads will complain it has the chance of being the best of them both, as valve have also stated they would be interested in supporting the eSport community with this title.

Feel the same as you. Been trying to get in to CS:S having never played it before but the learning curve is steep to say the least.

Love the game but wouldn't mind a leveller playing field with a new game.

But thats what make it and games like Quake 3 so damn popular and long-lasting because its not easy for everyone and you have to put some time in to be half decent.

Hmmm interesting! Certainly loved playing the original CS, but obviously times moved on and other games came out. Hopefully this will be decent!

this game should never ever be a simple pick up and go, it has to have a step learning curve, that's what separates it form all other fps.

If valve sell out and dumb this down to generate sales and break into the console market i will loose all respect Valve have rightly earned with all the amazing and innovative titles they have produced time after time.

There is a reason Counter strike is the best suited Pc platform fps/game for competitive play, there is a massive focus on skil and not the sort of skill arcade Fps players think they have, real skill that comes form hours and hours of practice

i played it at eurogamer expo this year on the ps3 i found it easy really and ive hardly played any cs games before i played cs:cz for about 1 hour...

There are other shooters which provide a platform for displaying skill you know. I love how oldschool CS players think they are amongst the "elite" for this reason

I'm not denying that it's a great game, possibly the best! There are other shooters where a level of virtuosity can be achieved.

Cod4
CSS
ET
Quake
Even L4D2 or ETQW!

They are all different and great in there own way.

That's because they are. No FPS (aside from possibly Halo 2/3) requires as much raw skill as CS. Just having the ability to aim doesn't make you a top player either, gamesense is just as important, if not more.
