***Official DC Universe Online Thread***

Marvel > DC but I might give this ago I used to play pen+paper marvel rpg back in the 80's

I am the same, always seemed to go towards Marvel more than DC, still the same, DC just doesn't seem to interest me but this MMO I am debating whether or not to drop £30 on it if it turns out I don't get on with it.

I guess I have until the 14th to decide when it launches in Europe :) Unless any one know's if the US release of the 11th on Steam will also allow those in Europe to play from tomorrow also?

My steam page still says it unlocks in 1 day 5 hours. so 7pm tommorow. Planning on doing an evening with my Brother playing through.

Yeah Steam says tomorrow but looking everywhere it seems to show the 14th as the European release and retail pre-orders are showing the 14th too. No mention on the main site as far as I can see at the moment.

Just wondering if Steam are doing their usual showing the US date and once that passes a new timer appears for the UK date. No steam forum for it at present so not sure on what Steam's stance on it is.

If you do get it tomorrow do you mind throwing up some initial views on it? A little undecided whether to get it or not or wait a month or two :)

EDIT:

Official site says worldwide release so I guess the 14th for Europe maybe a typo or just old dates retailers are using!

I've played it during Beta and thoroughly enjoyed it, being a comic fan it really appealed to me. Where as its not perfect, its certainly a good starting platform to build from, and has massive scope of potential as far as storyline and expansions.

I enjoy the combat, feels more action based than any other MMO i've played.

However Class selection and roles seemed very blurred to me, if CK could be so kind to do a quick write up explaining class selection and choices that'd be helpful for me also :P

Character creation/design aspect - great, you can make some fantastic looking characters when it comes to costume design, however facial and hair features was a little limited. I personally went for a realistic looking superhero from the DC universe.

If your a DC comics fan there's lots to love, from fighting OMACs to all your usual villains. As well as some lovely animation sequences with art work by Jim Lee who has done the in-game art.

If I was to put it to anything its like City Of Heroes but better, as the scope and the story actually fits, where as in City of Heroes I found myself running through the same instance just with slightly different layout at most points, with DC this never happened, not once did I come across the same level design so this coupled with the familiar characters made it feel much more comfortable.

It's got a long way to go to reach its peak, but its a good start, and personally feel its worth jumping in from the beginning to offer my support towards the game.

Yeah I am not a massive DC fan but I do read the odd title here and there, mainly just jump on the trades for DC stuff. Will see if I can blag an hour or two on it tomorrow with a few friends who are buying it and go from there.

Not sure why DC never took off for me, they do have some good characters. I seem to get Marvel stuff in the majority and then Vertigo stuff from the DC side of things.

I won't mind doing that. But I think your best bet is joining our league. You'll need to register here first and let them know who you're going to be when the game goes live. We're setting up our own domain for our league which will end up being called DC Raiders.

I just found out we have a Facebook page and YouTube page. So join those if you can and until I've named my character in game (hopefully it's not been taken), I cannot tell you who I will be right now lol.

Couldn't find a recruitment section, but signed up for the Portal. Username is Pingu_Pi.

hopefully catch you lot on tomorrow night :D

I don't collect a lot of the DC titles any more ill be honest, the whole Blackest Night thing fizzled out and since then ive got it down to a few like Action Comics, Batman Incorporated etc.

The big comics i've been enjoying are actually marvel as well at the moment, Matt Fraction's Iron Man series which is great, but most of all anything Jonathan Hickman has been writing, Fantastic Four and The Shield. A real gem of a writer in the Alan Moore vein.

Some fantastic indie titles out there still popping up. Too many to name though.

Yeah I stuck with Iron Man, been reading it since I was a kid so over 20 years. Reading Alan Moore's Neonomicon atm and then everything else is indie stuff, mainly just get trades now instead of the issue's. Only thing I read issue wise now is 2000AD.

For those wanting to know more about the classes/roles join DC Raiders on Facebook cos they will be compiling all this real soon. There's already a guide up about Tanking. So you can know how to tank properly during missions in a group. Especially for raids. :)

I think we should be able to use the US servers tomorrow. Cos I used them for The Matrix Online when that was up a few years back. And even on the beta I was on the US servers. The EU servers they used during beta was for PS3 only. If Steam says it will be unlocked tomorrow, then tomorrow I will be online :D

According to a discussion on Steam forums it is indeed going live tommorow, hope so really looking forward to it. Edit - beat me to it CK61938 :)

On the subject of comics I've been out of the loop for many years but was a big DC fan back in the day, so this should be right up my street. Now the Marvel MMO has been cancelled it would be nice to see a few crossover characters come in at some point, I don't know if they can/would do this maybe I'm just dreaming.

I love my DC Comics. Being a big Superman fan (my sig actually reads CK61938 in Kryptonese), it was only natural I get this game. I am glad I tested it out in beta. Made the experience all the more better for it and really got me excited for it.

I have been bored out of my mind since the beta ended. So hopefully tomorrow night I will be locked in and forgot about Twitter, Facebook and other stuff haha. :D

I am looking forward to launch. The leveling, at least up to 20 was very fun. Not sure about endgame, but its fun collecting costume pieces, and provided enough content, polish and style to warrant £30. If you get it on Direct2Drive - you can pre-install it now, i did last night.

Here;s some videos i took during beta. As you level, you move around the city basically following investigations. In a nutshell, it equates to a big quest followed by a solo dungeon leading up to a fight with a well named boss.

BANE :

Harley Quinn:

Doctor Psycho

Metallo and Lex Luthor

Poison Ivy

aye, no idea why im tempted by this, it looks shallow and probably lacks any real longevity, but the whole superhero/villain gimmick just seems...fun

it is fun, especially with friends :)

it gets suprsingly addictive after level 10. 1-10 wasn't fantastically appealing, but grouping up taking down some of the big guys is great fun, especially as your character develops.

also, collecting gear is like collecting football stickers as a kid, you just can't help yourself and find that your sat there going through your backpack saying 'got, got, got, got, got, got, NEEEEEED'
