Is this game best played with a keyboard and mouse, cause going by the above videos you could play it really well with a controller. I think it would be quite good with a controller or is a bit hard?
The fighting seems quite fluid and fast paced for an mmo which is a nice change.

During beta on the forums, there were a lot of people trying/recommending to play on a controller. It has support for the PS3 controller on the PC... but actually getting the controller working in the first place is kind of tricky as there are no official drivers AFAIK.

It does however work perfectly with an xbox pad, its just the button symbols show up as PS3 symbols - at least they did for me anyway.

However i played on keyboard/mouse and it was just fine. I preferred it on kb/ms - however as the game does play like an action game, up to you if you want to try on the pad or not. If i had to give you an example of what it played like with a kb - Darksiders on the PC, or even devil may cry 4 was similar.

I'm tempted to give this a bash, I really have the urge to play an MMO but didn't really get on with City of Hero's....

...temptation, even more so with Sandybridge arriving tomorrow so a decent rig to play on :p

For some reason i really wanna try it with my xbox controller which will be the first time i done that with an mmo.

Ive no idea what side i want to be on or what class, is there a good guide i could read about this game. Ive only been following this game for about an hour:p

It does work well with a controller, far better than any other mmo. You use the back triggers on the pad to split the action bar in to 2 lots of 4 buttons.. so left trigger and X is 1, Y is 2, A is 3 and so on... then Right trigger is 5, 6, 7 and 8 if that makes sense. Sounds confusing but it's comfortable.

Bit more about how you set your character up. Depending on the powers you choose, you can either be in a controller, damage or defence role. I may be wrong here (i never play healers) but i think healers fall in to the controller category. Either way you press T to change between roles and you build the list of powers per roll you want from the loadout screen.

Think Guild-wars... you know how in Guild-wars you choose like 8 skills from a big list.. DCUO is like that. So in your damage role, you might take several powers that hit hard - and maybe something that heals/reflects damage to help your survivability - or you could just go all out damage and be a bit squishy. There is choice in the matter at least.

When it comes to roles, you can choose to be a healer, tank or controller. Everyone is dps, regardless of roles. So you can be a dps/tank, dps/healer and dps/controller. Tank can have fire or ice based powers. Healers can have nature or sorcery based powers but I am unsure about controllers, all I know for them is they can regen you your powers.

Be sure yo know exactly what role you're going to be and learn it well. Best weapons I can recommend are as follows:

For close up/melee attacks: Staff, Double Handed Hammer, Dual Wield Swords.
For ranged attacks: Dual Wield Pistols, Bow, Rifle.

Those bad boys do some serious damage. Especially if you get the purple versions of each. In beta I had the purple of the staff, hammer and swords. The first two were able to give out 87.1 dps and the swords a staggering 97.6 dps. The other great about the staff was if you did the ranged attack it could hit upto 2000+ dps on someone like Doomsday. However, the devs found this out and reduced it big time. So now it does around 250-350dps.

Remember, as you level up and you pick up awesome loot for your character at that level, use them. When you do duos/alerts/raids, you'll certainly pick up new and powerful weapons and be sure to make sure they are for your role. So if you see a tank weapon, roll the dice for it. Same for healer and controllers. They will benefit you in the long run.

I am not sure if you guys will be able to read this but that's the guide our league leader has compiled on becoming a successful tank within the game. He is one of the best tanks out there so he knows what he's talking about. Hopefully we'll have more guides like for the healers and controllers.

Meanwhile, there is this other site I found the other night. It gives good insight on the powers within DCUO. It's not completed but it gives you an idea on what you can choose for your character.

Hope this helps guys. :D Less than 24hrs. I can hardly contain myself now :D

Just popped in to say.... 11 hours to go!!!

Making my Soe account now ahead of time. What server would people recommend? I was thinking about going pvp...

Was a lot of ganking during the beta on PVP servers.. didnt try it myself but i hear you were able to free roam and attack anyone on the other side.. if that's your cup of tea go for it :)

Even on PVE servers you had people stood on top of the police stations with /pvp toggled on.

Yeah I think I might go PVE to start with then, not interested in an all out gank fest while I'm learning the game :)

Pre-Loaded last night, I gave in and got the game. Will be on it this evening, might go and create the SoE account now to save the mass flow of people signing up later. Will probably go PVE myself and then just toggle PvP once I have got used to the game or up in the higher levels.

You can patch the game up just now if you run the launcher via the instal directory instead of via steam. Dunno if that'll mess things up for steam or not though.

Edit - the patch is apparently 9GB making the client total 21.3GB  I can only assume that the steam download is an older version as even in the beta it was a straight download without having to download any recent huge patches.

Thanks for the headsup dling patch now.

Cant use my key yet as suprise suprise SOE are having technical problems which they are sorting now. Doesnt matter i wont get to play it till tomorrow, cause of work and sleep.

I read on there forum they got a lifetime sub, anyone gonna get it. I would have to play it for a few months to know that its a game i could see myself playing for a long time.

I look forward to hearing peoples impressions of this. Im muchos happy playing WoW atm but the character design system and the costumes just look awesome.

I know i'd love the stories as well but the only turn off from what i've seen is combat videos. Just looks like a massive animation explosion with peeps spinning all over the place.

Ohhhh I've been umming and ahhing over this for the past few weeks.

Never really been interested in mmo's at all (although City of Heroes/Villains did look tempting) but being an ex comic book geek this looks to go to resist.

Plus the vids Fenlock put up make it look like a lot of fun.
