what is this?

Deus Ex Director's Cut

Human Revolution, a prequel to the critically acclaimed original PC action RPG, is set in the year 2027. It's a time of great innovation in neuroprosthetics, but also a time of chaos, conspiracy, and social divide. Adam Jensen, a man cybernetically augmented against his own choice, finds himself in the middle of a mysterious, global plot to which he holds the key.
The original, designed by Epic Mickey's Warren Spector, gave players vastly different ways to play and Human Revolution is no different as you can progress using combat, stealth, hacking, or even by talking people into helping you.
A divided near-future: discover a time of great technological advancement, but also a time of chaos and conspiracy. Mechanical augmentations of the human body have divided society between those who can afford them, and those who can't. Opposing forces conspire from the shadow to control the destiny of mankind: a human revolution is coming.
A perfect mix of action and role-play: the game uniquely combines action-packed close-quarter takedowns with intense shooting, offering a vast array of character augmentations and upgrades for the many weapons at your disposal. Unlock new abilities and increase your stealth, social, hacking or combat skills: the game rewards all styles of play and approaches. Determine how you want your character to evolve, based on how you want to play the game.
Choices and consequences: shoot your way through your enemies, sneak up behind them without being traced, hack systems to retrieve crucial information, or use your social skills to extract information from key characters - there are always choices, multiple approaches, multiple paths and multiple tools at your disposal. Choose your playing style and face the consequences of your actions: you decide how the story unfolds.
Two DLC bonus missions seamlessly integrated into the Director's Cut: Tong's Resuce and Missing Link.
Developer commentary and strategy guide integrated.
Boss fights overhauled - added mutliple ways to defeat bosses.
New game options: hybrid gameplay with multiple ways to tackle objectives throughout the game. It is all about choices and consequences; you choose how the game is played.

so just 1 DLC extra? TONGE'S RESCUE?

Not a bad thing, they are clearly listening to what people wanted particularly around the boss fights and not being Wii U exclusive. The streamlined DLC is a nice touch too.

I have the game + all DLC, hope they offer a cheap or free upgrade on steam. Would hate to have 3 entries on steam for same game. I already have 2 :/

Really happy they are doing this though. Hope it leads to an announcement of new game coming out maybe end of this year or next :D

I will buy it if the Director's cut edition is true. I really enjoyed DX:HR and have already played through it twice. These improvements/extras in the Director's Cut edition will give me another excuse to revisit the game for a third time.

AWESOME!

Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut is set to arrive on October 22. Fans that have already payed and played the original probably don't want to pay for a double-dip. Thankfully, Square Enix has heard fan concerns and has promised that the PC version of Human Revolution can be upgraded to the Director's Cut at a discounted rate.

Square Enix's European blog notes that players with registered Steam copies of Human Revolution can receive the Director's Cut for $9.99, which is half-off the game's full retail price. Players that own both Human Revolution and the Missing Link DLC can upgrade for only $4.99.

Really pleased with that! :)

Are they finally going to make the bosses defeatable through cunning methods rather than just brute force and ignorance like they seemed to be in the original release? (maybe I missed an easier way)

You didn't miss an easier way, but yes, the boss battles have been completely reworked. Not sure exactly how, but I know that the boss from Missing Link was mentioned as inspitation, which you could defeat through stealth. I think there will be non-lethal methods to defeat each boss.

Hehe, that "boss" from Missing Link, I didn't even realise was a boss until someone mentioned it afterwards. It was so different from the bosses in the main game, and yeah I was able to stealth it. It was a while ago, but I'm pretty sure he never knew I was there.

If they've reworked the boss fights to be like this, then that's excellent news and I'll definitely be "augmenting" my existing copies to this director's cut. As they stand at the moment, those boss fights really let the game down.

A bit more info

It is about the Wii-U version, but it all applies

All DLC is Included

The "Missing Link," which was available as DLC for the original and Tong's rescue mission that shipped with the Augmented Edition have been seamlessly integrated into the narrative flow of the game. The Missing Link still has players lose their abilities at the beginning but they will be able to bring all the new augmentations and weapons into the regular game after the content is completed and their missing skill points will be awarded back to them.

New Game+ Mode & Achievements

The highly requested New Game+ mode has added to the Director's Cut, letting players carry over their augmentations and weapons from their first playthrough. All the achievements from the original game, including the Missing Link DLC achievements and new Director's Cut achievements are built into the game as well.

Boss Battles & A.I. Improvements

In terms of the revamped boss battles, all the maps have been reworked to include options for stealth and hacking, allowing players to solve the encounters without firing a single bullet (although the bosses still have to be killed in some way). Eidos Montreal had originally made tweaks to the A.I. for the Missing Link DLC that has now been applied to the entire game and now two energy cells recharge in all but the highest difficulties, allowing for more experimentation and use of augmentations.

Visual Augmentation

Use stealth even during boss battles. The improvements in the visual department consist of smoother shadows, better lighting and anti-aliasing which are now part of the whole game. According to Eidos Montreal's Emile Pedneault, the Director's Cut on Wii U is even "sharper than the PC version," likely referring not to the actual sharpness of the resolution but to the graphical improvements originally found in the "Missing Link" DLC which were applied to the whole game while also being improved even further.

Exclusive Bonus Content

Also included in the Director's Cut are a 45-minute Making Of-documentary and around eight hours of developer commentary from Eidos Montreal in the vein of Valve games like Half Life 2 or Portal that have small icons appearing in the world that trigger the audio files which can then be played back even while the player continues to explore the level.
Shame you still can't lean, a feature that I thought was oddly missing from the game.

Definitely looking forward to this. I'd love to have another playthrough with boss fights that aren't rubbish and the DLC being seamlessly integrated into the story. The New Game+ mode is an interesting addition. I'll reserve judgement on that until I've played it, but my experience of New Game+ modes in general is that it just makes you ridiculously overpowered for the entire game. The games I've seen where New Game+ actually works well is where you can choose two or three abilities to keep, but not the entire set.

New Game+? I never asked for this.

Edit: as for leaning, I didn't really miss that. You have an aug for wallhacking, so I don't think lean is really needed, and excluding it probably simplified the controls for the console versions.
