*** Official Dota 2 Thread ***

Does anyone have a spare egg? I figure people might have one tucked away on an alt.

Also - Monster, can i grab one for a friend? I gave away a whole bunch of invites and a new work friend wants one after watching me watch a match at lunchtime. I told him he probably doesn't want to be called a rude word 20 times a night but hey, he thinks he's strong :)

If you could gift it to http://steamcommunity.com/id/atomicmitten that would be super awesome.

Attention pro Dota players,

Please can you recommend a few characters to play for someone who lies between the bad and very bad player bracket. I've been playing venomancer and skeleton king and have done okaaaaay but would like to know which other characters I should try which are easy to get to grips with.

I like playing ranged characters but get very frustrated in the end game as they tend to be very squishy. Also like melee characters which can take a lot of punishment too so I don't die as easily and can have some effect in ganks and team fights towards the end game.

So, any recommendations?

Ranged try Windrunner. Try playing her in a Solo lane. Build Phase Boots, Push Stick & Sheep Stick.

Melee try Ursa. Farm the Jungle til you have Vlads for a fast Roshan kill, pick up some Phase Boots and a Blink Dagger. Maybe a BKB too and start the ganking!

I would suggest you wind down playing SK because he's "50 minute+ late game" style for a start and you end up being the initiator - if your team ditches you (and they will at lower tiers) your ult is for nothing, likewise your stun is great - if someone follows up. Lower skill games get determined by the 20min mark usually, you can dominate lanes with some heroes and make everyone cry.

Darkseer can 1v2 any lane with WEWEWE, put W on their creeps if you're vs 2 ranged otherwise put it on your own creep, the second one to meet the battle point of the lane. Surge saves you from virtually all ganks, vaccum before ult is hilarious. Build tanky, hand to face combat.

Dirge (undying) in a lane is annoying AS HELL. Build priority is RQEW, bring some mana or KoTL to spam Q, stack up the Q to about 4 then go hit for 1/5 their hp with autoattacks while they are slowed from your tombstone. Extremely effective vs people who don't understand him

Make sure to get ring of basillius (the 500 odd gold ring) for some mana regen on windrunner or you'll be running low constantly.

Mekansm is also a good second big item after boots.

Will do. It can be quite annoying when you run out of mana.

I'll add those two to the list too. Thanks. I'm guessing I will have to persist through the obscenities thrown my way until I get used to them :p

If you're going to be playing Windrunner, more than likely, you'll be doing it in a support role... I'd recommend losing the Phase Boots and going for Arcane. You'll love the extra mana, simply so you're able to spam Arcane Shot and Shackle onto the enemy in your lane and your carries will love you for it as well, as you're able to provide the extra mana for their abilities. And don't forget courier/wards!

That being said, the one reason she's mega-decent to play with as a newb is because of her escape mechanic (Windrun). Try to play with heroes who're similar to her in that respect, Mirana is another. Leap and her Ulti are a great way of saving you from trouble a lot of the time and it'll help you last a lot longer in every game you play. Obviously with Mirana's ult, try to use it with a bit of common sense :P

Puck's another hero who can turn the tide of fights, but also has amazing escape abilities... but that's a hero for you to try when you've got a better grasp of the game.

When I started, I played just Windrunner until I was comfortable with understanding the game mechanics... what certain heroes were capable of, and what the items available can do. Then I moved onto different heroes, like Sand King (good melee hero to learn with), Sniper, Disruptor, Dragon Knight, Earthshaker, Bloodseeker... and by this point you probably know the game backwards. Not to say you need to follow that line of enquiry, they were just the heroes I felt comfortable playing at the time.

Also, try Jakiro. He's a fantastic hero who scales with skill... but his abilities allow for even the newest of players to cause mayhem during team fights.

New chat wheel via reddit, seems a great addition to valve especially at getting new people used to it/convenience for others as well.

I've posted about him before before but Jakiro is a great starting hero imho. He's not too squishy for support and icepath can get help gets ganks right from level 1. Once he's got max skills he can put out some serious dps, especially if your team has another disabler.

The biggest annoyance as far as Jakiro is concerned is the fact his range is quite terrible, for his auto attack. If you're against solo Windrunner or any other range hero for that fact, other than Zeus. Prepare to have a crappy game if you plan to bully them.

Venomancer! Good hero to get accustomed too. If he's not banned, you'll find him in a lot of big games. Great counter, along with Dark Seer, for Templar Assassin.

Slark seems a little OP. Played with and against him this weekend and that ulti is a little bit mad. You can't see/target him and can't outrun him...

Slark is 100% countered by any support with a stun and the ability to by a blue ward. If he's in vision he doesn't get his regen+move speed which is what he is extremely reliant on, do not buy dust vs him as he purges it. He will always try to 1v1 people or do a leap pick off to start a fight, the former you counter by moving into team fights quicker to deny him an extended farming phase and the latter I recommend picking a great initiator / mass disabler so that the second he tries to pull any funny business, you can burst him down.

I'm taking Jakiro a lot to counter him because ice path is obscenely OP but other great counters I have seen are decent Voids, magnus, tide etc... Just ward as you go in or pre-ward the expected fight area and destory.

Jakiro's lane harass can be pretty hard, one point in e (it works on towers by the way, crazy tower pushing) done on the enemy can wear them down but i usually get WQQWE then start combo'ing all 3 on people. it won't kill, never expect it to, but it hurts like a bitch and people will avoid jumping you if they are below 66% hp usually :)
