*** Official Dota 2 Thread ***

The community isnt that bad, there are some nice people out there even. What will get you flamed though is not knowing how to play the game as this directly impacts everyone else more than other games as its very team play orientated. If you dont do your job your team will lose. Learn your hero before you play online is my advice.

Play coop vs bots for your first 1-20 games, and make sure to read up so you know the basics.

But yea some real tools seem to play thee sorts of games. ignore/block/report are your friend!

Got an invite for this the other day, it's pretty fun. Had about 9 kills and a couple of deaths and won. Was enjoyable for my first time playing a moba game :)

I have 6 invites, but they got red text that can only be redeemed in certain countries? Dunno why they are restricted, but if you want to try i can gift you it.

I think there are 2 types, china and non china beta invite passes.

On another note, new hero released today, timbersaw!

Ill be up for some matches if you want, only played a few games but remember a lot from playing wc3 so im only slightly useless atm :D

:p

just gonna head off to bed now early morning tomorrow :(

had another couple of games tonight and it seems i only like playing drow ranger :(

i did enjoy Zeus though.

are there any more heroes similar to this? probably shouldn't be playing a carrier to start with :p

If anyone is feeling kind, would love to get ahold of a key for a friend of mine(seems i've missed the thread or two that have been made recently), feeling very alone playing this by myself. In the games i've played no one seems to have any coordination.

MOBA games do seem to have **** communities attached, playing with friends is better than solo queue 90% of the time.

I think this is partly due to the fact that games of dota2 can take between 40-60 mins, and if you have a teammate who doesn't know what they are doing, they will be feeding the enemy team, and you will slowly lose with little hope of winning. But because of how dota2 works, it will be a slow, drawn out loss, and you can't just quit or you will get an abandon so you just have to stick around for up to an hour with no hope of winning.

The community expects people to learn the game against bots before transferring to online mode, so that while you might not be a pro player, you know the basics, have a rough idea of how to play the characters you pick, know that you don't just walk solo into the enemy jungle, and so on.

I believe this is why the community as a whole gets angry at bad players online, because it means their time in this game is going to be wasted as they don't see themselves as having a hope of winning. Of course, by spending the time hurling insults at the player instead of offering advice and trying to help, it means that the problem just gets worse as they don't learn anything.

Pretty much as above, you require your team to do well for you to do well so much and it is a big time investment for a game, leads to people being mad.

That and russians.

Well that was interesting, played my first game where i just got a torrent of abuse from my team from the very start right untill they all rage quit because they were getting owned hard and it was all my fault apparently .

The other side were simply playing well as a team where as my side were busy insulting everyone as much as possible, the really annoying bit is that they just gave up after 10 minutes and thought crying about it was better than actually trying to play the game.

Would be nice to play a few games with people who don't yell noob the second someone dies.

If anyone wants to play some friendly matches feel free to add me, usually gonna be online after 7 but get some decent time off for xmas.

I've added you to Steam dude, I'll have some games with you.

It's the problem with this game really: the community is downright brutal and it puts the majority of new players off. The weird justification that DOTA2 players are under an obligation to play well and not waste their teammates time is pretty flimsy imo. If this were ever true it would have been the case in every cooperative multiplayer game in the past also.

The real reason is that the average DOTA2 player is hyper-elitist and tends to think they're a lot better at the game than they actually are. This manifests with stuff like some guy doing a really early suicide tower dive to try and get first blood, dying in the process, and then blaming it on his lane-mate for not giving enough support. Once the first bit of blame has been shouted out, people tend to spend the rest of the game picking apart everyone else's gameplay and it leads to a loss.

Pretty much anytime someone dies on this game it's someone elses fault, no matter how well you play it will be your fault if you're support and the carry you're with dies.

Even more so if you choose to use Omniknight, you're expected not to let anyone die ever and god forbid if you do let them die. lol.

I do agree though about getting the basics down, I played last night and we had a Drow on 0-12, completely ruined any hope of getting anywhere in the game.

On a side note Tide with refresher orb is insane!
