Is there an appeal system for penalty? I got a 24h penalty but I only disconnected from "safe to disconnect games" and didn't say anything mean in chat. I didn't do anything wrong and still got 24hour "ban"

You got put into low priority. You'll get no random item drops, people are generally horrible in it (verbal etc..) but you can still play. 24hrs indicates you left a game in progress though, this is the standard "timeout" punishment used by Valve. You can get one for verbal harassment too but it seems unlikely you got this.

It actually tells you in red text (and to your team mates if you queue with them) why you're in low priority on the queue up screen.
Any advice on characters that are 'easy' to play?
If you can find it, old thread had quite a bit on new heroes but I'll repeat the usuals that get mentioned.

Supports: Lich, Vengful Spirit, Jakiro (all have great lane presence)
Easy to learn Strength heroes: Slardar, Sven, Sandking (only take SK with another stunner)
Carries: (ranged) Sniper, Drow, (Melee) Juggernaut, Anti-mage.

Queuing with a friend? Lina + Sandking + level 3 kills anything that can't stun back. Naga Siren + Any stunner (lion works well) kills anything that can't stun back from level 2/3 onwards (net into stun into naga images with backup E)

All the above have either a cut down list of spells (less to press in a panic) or an easy to learn combo. Ask this thread for more info. There are loads more "easier" heroes, this is just a small snapshot of solid allrounders. Not all heroes in Dota have a skillshot like LoL and you have a tiny mana pool - don't burn your spells in lane unless you have a good reason (scare them, a gank, etc...) I'm amazed you used fixed camera to be honest but if you want to replicate it partially, double tap and told select hero bind.

Cheers Myshra :) That's plenty of advice and tips. Need to learn to last hit properly. Seems like it's much harder in Dota!

All the games I've play thus far (only 3) had Sniper.
Last game I had, there was a Lycanthrope just destroying our team pretty hard.
Are there any characters that can 'jungle'? :D

For jungleing lifestealer, enchantress, ursa, natures prophet, lone druid and blood seeker. Some of them are more difficult than others but they all can effectively do it from the start.

Junglers only get 50-66% of the gold of last hitting in lane (assuming you can last hit) but if you can't last hit too well then jungling is easy mode faceroll type stuff. Lycan got nerfed to hell recently and is a much worse jungler than before.

Jongo forgot a few (Enigma, Skeleton King) but for the sake of easymode I'm going to suggest the extremely common Ursa/Lifestealer/engima builds. Build / Item choice is a lot more important in jungle and you need a courier (unless you're natures prophet AKA Furion).

Ursa - I Open with shield/salve/3 tangos/ 3 branches EWEQER (whatever but I usually R>E>W>Q. If you don't gank then open EWEWER). gank your short lane at 4/5 (you use your salve before going in) Build a vlads, phase boots, then blink/BKB according to need. R has no mana cost, use every CD in jungle but read the text - your current health matters!

Party piece: Do Rosh at 6+ when you have vlads - fury swipes OP! Use a smoke to get in without being spotted by wards, DO NOT W OUTSIDE THE PIT - everyone will hear you.

Ganking potential - If they have no stun / get away and your partner has at least some CC then High. Else - no chance unless you have micro or boots.

Lifestealer - Ignore suggested, get shield/quelling blade and 3 tangos. WQWEWR, Ganking requires E - you can do it at 4 if your lane isn't habited by morons but only do it if they are not braindead - you need that farm. Tangos will get you through 1 to 3 which can be rough (do easycamp twice, medium, lanepull, you can now take on any camp). Build a Armlet/power treads, In trouble press Q and slap face. Note - W is % of current targets HP - not max HP, when you change targets to that fresh victim you steal a LOT of HP. This is why you see lifestealers commonly at ~35% hp - their steal is super strong.

Party piece - R into a creep as it's going down a lane, Give the other team a hilarious surprise (make sure you Q before they try to CC you)

Enigma - You only take this guy for his game changing ult - Huge, Mega disable that goes through BKB. Open with a ring of basilus + all mana pots, build a Soul ring, brown boots then either Blink/Mek and once you have that, BKB. WQWQWR (whatever but from here I do R>Q>W>E). W the right creep! The strongest, non-immune one. Remember your minions split (and regain all their hp) after 6 hits so rotate them in and out of aggro so they don't die before this.

Ganks - Turn up to lane, W something, Q a hero, Kill anything. Easymode cheat for controlling minions, turn on "Ctrl click controls all targets" or whatever that option is. Don't use this in the jungle (you need to rotate them remember) but for lanes etc... it's easy.

Party piece - that ult. Do not get interupted. Don't bother doing E before R, in HoN it worked as you could animation interupt E really easily, doesn't work in Dota :( Don't be afraid to ult 2 of them (eg both their stunners), if you kill 2 then the other 3 arn't going to be an issue.

Great advice right here for all you new (noob!) players.

Personally not a big fan of Blink on Ursa, depending on the enemy line-up I prefer going say Basher - combined with his W move (forgot what it's bloody called now!) and Fury Swipes, they're most likely to get stunlocked anyways so they will drop stupidly quick.

By all means have a play around and try different item builds - that's all part of the fun. You might get flamed for building such a stupid build but who cares haha. Try playing Anti-Mage with a Blink Dagger & Force Staff :D

Might be worth subscribing to some of the Dota 2 YouTube channels as well to see how the pro's play or just watch some livestreams on Twitch for example.

Well this is BS, just had a game lost come out of it and bam penalty pool again, the only thing i said in chat is "fur the future there's a tomb stone after hero dies it means he will be resurrected in a few seconds".

There has to be an effign appeal system I am tired of being put into **** pool >_<

The red thing says it's because "abandoning games or player reports", it doesn't give reason, it always says that line.

probably people reporting you, happened to me a few times even though I've not abandoned any games since like level 2 :P

If the punishment is instant then that means you probably abandoned a game. Need more details though, because the low priority isn't always given to abandonments.

Could use some advice for melee chars, I can't seem to lvl quickly enough and then just get owned by the higher lvl carry ranged.

Which heroes are you having trouble on? Without seeing any of your replays, I'd says it a positioning issue or you just had a bad lane with what you was faced against.

I buy shield and 6 berries or whatever they are called. It's enough to keep up in terms of money and exp. As melee make sure you play against another melee or if it's side lanes with 2v2 make sure your partner is ranged(on the other hand 2melee can burn down range enemy early game pretty quickly). If the enemy is too aggressive then only get in range of creeps/enemy to finish them off for money, otherwise stay out of range of enemy.

I find melee the easiest to play as they're usually quite beefy and have large attack early game, I like to play aggressively, attack enemy heros till they're low on health, if they get too close to creeps I kill them if they too far away they don't get exp.

In the first game, were you in low pri or was it normal? When are you leaving games, when it says it is safe/the end or before? If you're long term in low pri it usually means you said something really really moronic (eg racism)

Agi? Turn a shield into a poorman's, if you're going Battlefury then ring of health in the sideshop ASAP.
Str? Your Str gain should keep you in good shape tbh, leave the shield as is, get a pot ferried if need be.

Both: XP range is huge, if going for that last hit is going to cost you 150hp don't do it. Don't fight for no gain - if you're not going to last hit then don't be near the creeps. If you're vs a double stun lane and you have no decent escape, cry a lot. This lane will be down to your support as well as you.

Ah yes problem solved, I watched replay, I got afk low apm "game abandoned". I didn't abandon it but got it for being afk apperently, quite annoying as watching replay I started moving and got " 'Name' abandoned the game" literally within same second. Wasn't afk for that long either, my hero was ahead everyone in lvl and money we would have won easy if 2 guys wouldn't stop soloing and thus feeding their group of 5 (ie half the team didn't want to group up together)

You get an automatic abandonment if you're not in exp range for 5 mins.

This thread should be much bigger. Dota 2 is the best game Ive played online since Counter Strike back at beta 5.2-6.1 era.

No 2 games play the same. Every character has its strengths and weaknesses. Its the most infuriating, yet rewarding game Ive played.

We need more discussions on the go.

Whos your favourite character etc ? :)

Im partial to Nightstalker, Luna and Bounty Hunter. With a bit of Lich when Im feeling the support role. I might practice with Pudge one day because his hook is so scary in game :)

I love Sniper. Great for harassment early game and if farmed well, can be a monster mid/late game.

I've been using single draft for a while to get accustomed to other characters. I've had some absolutely shocking games as a result though :p Mainly not knowing how to play the character and which items to go for.

I'm definitely more of a ranged kind of player. I can't handle getting shot at as a melee and not being able to do much about it and when I do get sick of it and decide to jump in, I usually die quite miserably :(:D

I also like disruptor, skeleton king (although lost all games I've played with him), zeus, razor and spirit breaker.

I also agree that this thread should be more popular. Its an awesome game

I recommend the Dota2 app on Android if you ever get given a character you are unsure of. Its handy to just check phone for some decent builds during the game.

I need to get used to using items more often because I die a lot when I should have activated shadowblade etc. Its just down to practice I guess.

Items are vital in the game so its worth getting a good build going.

Indeed, I've stopped playing recently due to the only other person I know who played regularly is going through his phase of only playing SC2.

Also I apologize for lack of updating OP, I will get it done and more promptly when thread is more active but atm I doubt many people use it as it is just the regulars here.

Favourite hero for mindless fun is Nature's Prophet(furion), chill start to the game in jungle just tping for kills, farm like mad, push like crazy and tp and gank pretty much any hero if they are solo.

Rasta probably my favourite support, landing warp traps are just too fun and great push potential early.

Invoker for mid is also fun due to massive amount of spells, although takes a game or two to get back in the swing of things with him.

What keybinds you use for items?

I'm on 1 2 3 4 5 Spacebar, usually panic items like shadowblade I'll put on 1/2/spacebar as it is pretty easy to hit, I certainly noticed I had better memory of using items when on more familiar binds and easy to hit ones.
