Make sure to get ring of basillius (the 500 odd gold ring) for some mana regen on windrunner or you'll be running low constantly.
Mekansm is also a good second big item after boots.
Dota actually has a turning animation.
Juking is much better/skillful, not that running into that silly long grass stuff.
I don't know what you mean by most people don't know of, people who have never played dota or have? Anyone who has played a good few games of Dota will realise items aren't all just all passive stuff or very weak use abilities, they actually are complete fight changers, skills do a lot more, trees can be destroyed etc. There are so many small differences that have huge effects it would be hard to list them all.

Yeah unfortunately the interest seems limited in the thread and the main people we would get together are regulars.
Even if we can't get 10 we could at least get some people off reddit/teamliquid chat who need help/are willing too.

Pretty much, usually they are either pretty damn good, or most of the time they suck and ruin the game (be it through play/insulting people/not listening), honestly wish their IPs were banned from our servers, an absolute chore playing with them nobs.
Indeed, people should also have read some of the stuff linked in the OP or at least found their own material. Showing up having never played/read about the game at all will be very hard to make it enjoyable for everyone.
