It seems to be a common trend among students with long hair who drink a lot. Not seen a lot of guys over 23 use it.

Seems to be used on the forum a lot. Must be a computer geek thing :p

Is it just me? Or do you also hate the word being used?

*Awaits daft responses including the word :D*

When I first heard it I think it was playing WoW beta, and heard it used by some 16 year old. I thought it was mildly amusing then but can't stand it's usage over the years.

i am 25 and i use it, however i dislike it when it's over-used.
But then again same can be said for most words.
one guy i used to work with really bug, me because every third or fourth word out of his mouth was ummmmmm.

It has got a lot more mainstream over the past couple of years, probably in part due to huge boom in social media and integration between the internet and mainstream media. It was practically a meme to start off with but now you see it being used in advertising etc.

As a term I used not to like it, but it is slowly growing on me. Still can't stand "EPIC FAIL!" though which again has hit the mainstream about 3 years after it started getting dull.

50% of Gibbo's threads seem to be advertising some "EPIC" deal or other at OcUK :)

I agree with SPW in that there is a real danger of the original meaning of the word becoming lost or deprecated. If you talk about an "epic adventure" that used to mean a classic wide-spanning story, say Lord of the Rings or something, now "epic adventure" could be a couple of teenagers going down the offy for a packet of malboro lights.

Boat has probably sailed on that one I think, would have expected it to have happened already if it was going to take off. Anything that has 1-2 syllables has a chance, e.g:

-"LOL"
-"dot com" randomly added to the end of words/feelings
-"EPIC"
-"Like" ["Dislike"]
-"FAIL"

Actually the more I think about it, the more it is just a case of the internet being a method to propogate little words/phrases/memes. I remember when I was at school there always used to be these little phrases we'd use like "beard" [meaning "I don't believe you"], "McPhersons" [to address a group of friends] etc, but because there was no internet, they would rarely catch on elsewhere in the country unless they came from a TV show or something.

Essentially, the internet helps the spread of language virii!

I've not come across anyone using the word epic. But this is good thing; as I would have to either use my fists on them or feel ridiculously embarrassed.

I have to grin at how channel 4 have embraced the word. In many of their programmes it is the new cool. Supposedly.

Epic fail.... Epic **** off!! More like!
