*** Official Fifa 16 Thread **

So I have now bought this and played it a little bit, bear in mind I only played FIFA at my mates house casually for the past decade I reckon...

Some thoughts.

System mechanics. There is definitely an almost overwhelming amount of system mechanics to think about. I have competitive experience with fighting games such as SFIV and MvC3, so luckily I think I can learn things a bit faster than normal, but its still quite confusing in the heat of the moment. Especially since triggers and bumpers act as modifiers of actions and variations all produce such different and slightly unintuitive. But I appreciate that there is a lot of different techniques and controls that we want to be able to use, so its really the only way.

Passing.
Like the introduction of strong pass. But I play on manual settings (I like the control even though I randomly will send a wayward pass and try over the ball at the worst time!), so I'm not even sure if the through ball button is even necessary now? Only annoying thing is when I play a pass, the AI sort of decides who is going to react to it, and sometimes its not the right person. Anyway around this?

Fouls
I actually really like how often the ref blows his whistle. Controversial but hear me out! Basically... its not that the ref is trigger happy, but I genuinely think these are fouls. Problem is, people are playing this too aggressively. You would never full sprint into someone and go for a tackle and not expect them to be able to shield the ball and get tackled. I seem to give away less fouls than the people I'm playing with just because I feel like my defending is more conservative and true to life.

Shooting
Right... manual shooting. No idea yet how to direct shots or why some seem to go wildly off target while others don't. I will have to hit the Arena to practise.

Training
Also is it not possible to have some sort of regular training set up? Ie.. not Arena, and not Skill practice. I want to be able to set the numbers of defenders, whether its a crossing situation etc..

Pace
I like that speed differences are only properly felt when you knock the ball in front of you.

FUT
This is quite confusing and I don't plan on spending any actual money so hopefully I don't have to wait ages before I can actually have some good players... but it looks like the green coins I need for decent packs are micro transaction only? Unless I'm wrong, haven't messed about too much with it.

I recommend you play FUT a bit more, you'll get used to it soon :) start off with single player to save up some coins, then you can start formulating a team of decent players.

You don't need to spend real money, personally I find it more fun with an average squad anyway. You'll be able to have a 80+ rated squad though, just have to save up :)

To get the top top players you'll have to spend real money unfortunately unless you pull one in a pack, in which case you can sell the player and make a profit.

I like that you touched upon pace, I only discovered yesterday that knock on is the only way to accelerate away from defenders now.

I really only discovered this by accident yesterday too, despite having it since release :o

I was aware that the knock on feature was there, but didn't fully appreciate how to use it effectively.

I've said to my friends, this is the year I actually get good at FIFA. But it'll take 3 months.

1 month to discover all the mechanics. Another month to integrate them into my game, and one more month to main a team.

Wishful thinking probably haha.

I think this is why I got into fifa, as I like games like street fighter etc :) (I have a custom fightstick)

Also when competing in streetfighter as a new player most will find the same confusion.

I tried full manual online and it was terrible :(
Also the wrong person reacting just seems to happen so much in this fifa, if it's a long ball & you have time, you can manually select/change the player in your control using the right stick.

I find the exact opposite, the ref hardly ever blows the whistle unless it's in the penaulty area.
Players can get side swiped or tackled from behind and lay on the floor with an injury and the ref will just ignore it, even tho the crowd are clearly jeering, booing or whistling. (and in FUT you will need to pay for a injury card or sit the player out for a few games)

I am the same but it seems some players are happily spending £50+ on fifa points as they think it will give them an advantage.
The majority of people I have played with 83+ rated squads (especially BPL) have been terrible at the game.

The main problem with FUT on the PC is the market is so small, eg: PC last night = 270,000 transfers, XBONE = 3million+ transfers
Making coins seems so hard on the pc version because of this :( also it seems there are few people on the PC version who list players for the wrong price, you might find some that are like 500-1000 coins cheaper on BIN but that's if you're lucky.

Yeah I used it in previous versions sometimes, as did others. This year however it will play a more important role due to its effectiveness.

I think they need to address the lobbed ball situation as well, OK fair enough you can't spam it anymore but it would be nice if it worked once in a while, otherwise it's useless.

As for manual passing, I used to play against a friend with it in FIFA12, was frustrating to say the least if you got it wrong :p I think a better starting point is to change it from assisted to semi, for more control. Although again the OTT AI interceptions will somewhat limit it.

Most FUT games I've played online it's been easy to out pass / play the opponent and set up some nice goals. Albeit I've only played a handful so far and in div 9 atm.

so..not able to connect to ea servers since yesterday evening?

Friend I play clubs with has the same problem so no idea what's going on there. Was fine for the rest of us.

On a side note, we were losing 2-0 and then EA kicked in and we ended up winning 3-2 after a very EA hatrick from yours truly :p

This game is so bad its unreal

from my few games played. Compared to fifa 13 (or 14 cant remember what the last one i played was)

Dribbling = insanely easier

Defending = more difficult due to how easy it is to foul and how effective dribbling is. Slightly offset because pace isnt as effective for attackers.

Shooting = same maybe more control

Passing = fine though through balls are harder. More tactical passing.

Goalkeepers = better

Freekicks = far far too easy. (i scored an absolute peach with my first free kick and only 77 fk acc using same tactics as fifa 13)

Haven't played in about a week, was away at the weekend for the Rugby and then been busy with work. I find this happens when I buy Fifa, if I leave it for a few weeks I then come back to find my team has bombed in value and selling them returns peanuts. I then lose interest :(

Will try and get some games in at the weekend.
