Official Focus RS

274bhp and no 4WD, not what was being hoped for. Any ideas how much they are going to want for it?

In what way is this a 'dissapointment' given the success of the last Focus RS?

It could still well be a very good car like the last generation but on 1st impressions everyone is 'disappointed' because we were hoping for slightly more

No surprise is it, Ford don't seem to have the budget or even the desire to compete in the performance market anymore. I think it's a shame but I guess motorsport doesn't require they make road going versions of their motorsport cars anymore.

A pity

everyone is 'disappointed'

Largely due to it not being 4WD even though Ford had old style Focus 4WD mules and new style 4WD mules and still went with FWD clearly for economic reasons.

I wonder if it will still feel like an MPV to drive.

I think it is a real shame that Ford are not pushing forward with a 4WD version but I suspect this would have a big impact on production costs and in turn the sticker price and Ford perhaps see's that as a risk in the current market conditions.

Or the increased profits from it being FWD can be used to prop up Ford USA :(

Whats amusing is that none of you guys moaning and crying and slagging Ford off for not making it 4WD would have stumped up the £30k+ to buy a 4WD drive one anyway which kinda makes your opinions slightly less than worthless as far as Ford are concerned.

It's absolutely nothing to do with that - the point is Ford need to make a car which will SELL and also turn profit, so pandering to the desires of those who won't buy it anyway is frankly a little pointless.

And considering the new Kuga is using the Haldex 4wd system from volvo, and is essentially the same chassis as the focus.

Surely the could convert it to run in the rs easily.

Another issue will be cost as over here in Ireland it should hit €55k+, yearly road tax of €2000k+ and then very high insurance.

Not that easy, the Kuga has a LOT more room to play with, the Focus would need to be redeveloped from the start with AWD in consideration.

Again, as fox says, VERY FEW people will buy a £30k Focus....and dont call me a bean counter.

I'm not sure what you guys expect for £23k - £26k. For that £3k more than the ST3 you are getting a HELL of a lot more.

The thing is the Focus range is already a little crowded, all be it very successful. The focus has been the best selling car in the UK for a while, the ST is doing well i see them everywhere, we also have the c-max did we really need another 'normal' focus in the range?

We all know that it would be a market risk asking someone to pay £30k for a focus but clearly the feeling of the masses is that that is what they want. (yes some off us wont be buying one but so far all we know is that it is unpopular decision maybe thats how most will feel) This was as good a time as any for them to take the risk, the focus is doing well, they can ride of the WRC success and the Japs didnt bring a car to the showrooms that we were after either. Maybe was to much to ask, but was just a shame......

But this is not a car which will sell to the masses. What the masses want is not relevent - what the market will bear is MUCH more important.

Wrong

I know you say 'some of us', but there is a MASSIVE gap between want and actually buy. Its not a mass market car, thus AWD would cost so much in devlopment and capital expense to create it would not be worth it unless they were going to cross AWD over to the standard Focus.

It wasnt too much to ask, but for the price it is set at, it is too much for Ford.
