Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

How many people are using the on-board sound for gaming?

I heard onboard sound lowers frame rate.
There are varied reports.. it basically only matters if you use any additional audio effects in game.. for most things it won't make much difference.

I picked up an Audigy 4 cheap so am using that anyway.

I was using the onboard sound but now I've switched back to my trusty old Audigy Player. MP3's sound much better on my 5.1 speakers and I don't have to worry about the onboard sound not support the later EAX versions in games which was effected before. I'm looking to buy an X-Fi though.

I used to have an Audigy 2 in my old pc, which I sold.

I've got a new pc and i'm using GA965pds3 onboard sound. When I play counterstrike with 5.1 sound enabled it doesn't sound right. The sound is hollow and rough. I've had to select 2.0 and only use the front speakers, because its that bad.

I have a suspicion that there is some latency with the sound. The sound of gunshots and explosions slightly laggs the events on screen, especially when all hell brakes loose in a big gunfight.

Well I'm back again after a lot fiddling and this mobo DS3 is being replaced by an asus. Overclocking for me is total no go! I've tried everything suggested here and I still can't get above stock values. I have no idea what the cause is but isn't the memory, that runs fine at 800mhz (DDR400) with timings at auto (in the bios) and passes prime95 for about 2 hours.
Temps are fine, high twenties, low thirties, so its not temp related, even tried another h/d just in case. Well hacked off here 'cos I bought the thing to overclock and I'm stuck at stock.
Anyone wanna DS3?

Just an update, I tried what was mentioned above, disabling legacy support and locking the pci-e bus to 105mhz, and the result was bsod's, lockups, request for a password at boot needed, so I've given up and back at stock.
As soon as I'm trying an asus.

pieman looking like you have the same setup as me i put my fsb all the way to 400 from the onset and although i got the voltage fail warning once. my system is running fine now at 425 fsb 2978ghz. ram timings are at auto did up volts 0.1 on ram cpu-z show 5,7,7,20 ratio 1:1
are u using the f4 bios using the @BIOS program?

At last I've broken the 300fsb barrier :D

Set vcore 1.45v
Vdimm 2.0v

Currently running 2.17Mhz (310fsb) and seems pretty stable with a few benchy's.

Like others suggested I had to disabled all USB support in bios and here I am. I have a usb mouse which I've converted to ps2.

Just got an error run SP2004 on the ram test may up the volts to 2.1 and try again...

Well famous last words, if I do a reboot then it wont restart, I get the hard disks spinning up but no graphics display etc. I have to power off to get it re-start.

Ok if I list my setting perhaps some1 could give my some pointers, I would be happy with 2.2Ghz - 2.4Ghz oc if it were stable:

Vcore 1.37v
Vdimm 2.1v
RAM - Auto
PCI - 105
Mch - default
FSB - default

I last tried 310 x 7 = 2.170Ghz

I got everything turned off in bios I can. I think the cpu is happy but if I run sp2004 and run the ram stress test it fails within 3 mins. Remember that I have the stock HSF so I dont realy want to jump to 400fsb straight way.

HELP!

Hi,

The 'Memory Performance Enhance' setting - Have you tried changing this to 'Normal'?

Thanks

Haven't touched memory enhancement, always at normal mate.
The really gauling thing is, this mobo won't overclock 19mhz (285mhz) over stock without falling over. I seem to have a wall at anything over 266mhz.
I'm using the f4 bios btw.

I think you must be unlucky with your ds3. Me and a few friends all got the ds3 , and are able to go to 400 fsb and above with relative ease. Return or replace yer board.

Is the ds3 supposed to opperate at fsb higher than 266mhz?

I know it can, but do the manufacturers guarantee that it will be able to go higher?

Do you void the MB warranty aswell as the cpu warranty by overclocking?

You wont void the warranty by overclocking the MB especially when their giving you the option to set the FSB so high, in the bios.

It will become unstable and crash before any damage is done imo, Ive only ever heard of cheap ECS boards giving up this way. Always ease the MHZ and voltage up gradually

They dont guarantee anything above 266, since that relys on the memory, psu, cpu and other components how could they. You have to rely on their reputation and forums like this :)

Righty ho, another update. reset the cmos, put ONE memory stick in the first red dimm slot, banged up the voltages as reqd, and hey presto, 350mhz prime stable!
Slapped the other memory stick and still at 350mhz, and still prime stable.
Going by eastytune5 and speedfan though, me system temp is reading 41c, is this normal?
This is one quirky mobo (well mine is anyway). I'm gonna leave at this setting for a coupla days and see how it goes, then if its stable, I'l go for 400mhz fsb.
Memory timings are a rather slack 5-6-6-12 @ 350mhz, 1:1.

Thanks for alll the assistance and help guys, its appreciated. :)

Glad you have finally seen some progress pie man.

41c does seem abit high for an idle temp, or is that at load in prime? If thats under load its perfectly fine.

What cooler are you using?

Thats under load mate, not idle. There is another prob though, it seems the mobo doesn't like two memory sticks. It'll run fine with one stick in when overclocked, but it gets "flaky with two. But at stock, it runs fine with two. I'm gonna try swapping the ram sticks around and see if that makes a difference,
At least I've made some progress.
