Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

I've got a DS3, rev 3.3, with an E6600 at 3.2ghz, (400 x 8) and it just won't go higher. I've tried the usual, Vcore at 1.5v, down clocking the memory, upping memory voltage, lower cpu multi, and it just won't budge higher, just won't post, restarts, etc.
Can anyone give me some voltage settings to try on things like northbridge, fsb, etc, or any advice at all. Could be this cpu just isn't as good a clockwer as I thought, or it could be the 4 x 1gb memory i'm using (geil ull 6400c)
Cheers:).

Does it go above 3.2ghz on x9?

In theory the DS3 should do upto (and often above) 500mhz. I would start by giving both the MCH and FSB voltages a bump to +0.1v.

Right, I'm at 3.366ghz atm with following settings:

375 x 9, Vcore 1.5v, MCH +2v, FSB +1v, memory 375 (750ddr) 4-4-4-12 (+.3v)

Just tried orthos and it bombed out after a coupla mins and pc restarted. Anything I can try next?

Okies, had a bit of a result here, system seems stable at 3.366ghz with vcore at 1.55, just testing with orthos now but it sure is getting toasty, averaging out at around 66c! If this cpu needs a lot of volts to run high, I'll settle for 3.2ghz with lower voltage.

Bit of an update, reduced Vcore to 1.525v, and MCH and FSB back to +1v and its stable in orthos the whole night now. The temps have also dropped a coupla degrees to 63c-64c load as opposed to 66c load, still a bit toasty though.
Is 1.525 Vcore ok though?, would've preffered slightly lower meself.

Cheers mate I really needed to hear that:p Still thats the luck of the draw I suppose. As an aside, my son has an E6300, DS3 (965) mobo, 2gb geil ull 6400c, and one of "WJA96"'s 8800gts installed, and I've been playing with that for a while. Got the cpu up to 3.31ghz, memory up to 475mhz (950 DDR) at 5-5-5-16, currently running orthos for the past hour and the temps are topping out at 55c, with the e6300 at 1.45v! Bloody things just as fast, lower voltage tolerant, runs cooler, quicker to set up and overclock than this E6600 that I'm struggling with to get the remps below 63c load!
Makes you wonder if its worth the effort really, lol:p
WJA96, hows the GTX going?

Hmmmm that does sound a little harsh when I say it out loud :o

The mid-60c's with Orthos is fine. And you'll never notice the difference between 3.36ghz and the average E6600 overclock of 3.5ghz. Benchmarking and maybe e-penis will take a hit, but they're both hyperbole.

I'm kinda in the same position myself. I'm stuck at 3.5ghz with my B3 Q6600 (even under water) whilst everyone else seems to be flying past 3.6ghz with no effort at all with their G0's. But I know in reality that my chip is really no slower than theirs.

Well I've settled with the fact its a crap clocker but 3.2 is good enough for me (still tempted to swap me son's for this one though:D) and I found out that if I cleaned the cpu heatsink and unblocked the front intake fan grill of all the dust, I can take nearly 10c off me load temps in orthos, fancy that!:D. The whole of the inside was covered in a mixture of house dust and plaster dust from the loft we're converting.
Still won't go higher than 3.2 without a lot of Vcore, around the 1.55v mark, not worth the effort, but thanks all the same for the assistance guys.

Lovely, thanks. Water-cooled now and I'm really getting into Crysis ;)

Did you get your SLi issues resolved? (probably get banhammered here for going OT)

Great to hear wrt the gtx. The sli thing was only an experiment anyway so I'm not too fussed about it and the whole system runs real well with the other gts installed. Its a pressie for my mate's son who is helping me with the loft conversion and he is over the moon, he can now play far cry and it looks pretty good too.
