Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

I am up against a kind of brick wall that I cannot get past.

I kind of hit similar a while back, but I can get around that.

What it is, is simple... I want to RAID it for a bit.

Under XP32, I had issues with the floppy, so I had to intergrate the Drivers into the CD, and away I go, it installs just fine. Windows XP 32 Bit and indeed Windows 2000 pose absolutely no problems at all for me.

The snag is, that I am using and want to keep using XP64... Or indeed give Vista 64 another try out ( On the RAID array )

The problem I keep coming up against is a BSOD.

The drivers I am trying are the current ones off the site, yes I am using the 64Bit ones in case you are asking, I cannot use the floppy method as it finds the drivers, lets me format the drive and copy the Windows files over, but then fails to find them when copying them from Floppy toHD ? - Same as XP32 in fact. Intergrating them into the CD causes the BSOD, and yes, I am using the right ones.

Im just wondering if anyone else has managed to get the DS3 to install onto a RAID array, then how did they manage it?

Like I said, I want to try 64Bit as 32Bit is easy.

No probs with x64 Vista (the Intel RAID drivers are already on the Vista DVD. Not sure about the JMicron ones), but it took me ages to find a set of pre-install drivers for x64 XP that actually worked. I can't remember which version they were, but I might have the JMicron ones knocking about somewhere on a floppy if that's what you need for the DS3.

I've had no problems installing win/xp on raid0. Using either the Intel chip or the Jmicron chip. That was using F6 on install and a floppy drive. Were you using stock settings for the install ?

No, I too have no problems with XP
I am however, getting nothing but problems with XP64 in this area.

Hmmm.... The intel ones are already on it?
The JMICRON ones most definitely are NOT.

At best, it whines about there not being a Disk, so, do I want to add drivers, I do a search and it finds one, and then I get to see the drive, but then it fails to format it, offering me a number ( I jotted it down but it eludes me at this time )... I have tried just carrying on here and it dos seem to try but then moans about it a few minutes later.

You might have some DS3 ones on a floppy?

If you would cob yeah? - That would be great.

Side note :-

Intel RAID?
Ignore the fact that Im a retard for a minute, but...

How?

It was a tad late and I was getting mixed up between my current DS3P and my old DS3. I'm using the Intel RAID on my DS3P, but I did use the JMicron RAID on my old DS3.

I'll have a look later to see if I can find the floppy I used for the JMicron RAID on the DS3. It took me ages to find ones that worked , so I'm hoping I haven't wiped the floppy.

Do you get a list of half-a-dozen or so options when you load the drivers from the floppy? IIRC only one option worked, and it was the second 363 one.

Cheers you two ( Cob & Digital Punk )

Im sure that I got those drivers a while back for XP32 ?

Its been a while as to where I D/Led them from, and they are great for intergrating into a 32Bit XP install ( Not tried Vista32 - never seen the need to ) but as I no longer need 32Bit XP or Vista for this PC, I never saw the need to re-download any 32bit drivers at all.

I will definitely have a look there and see what I can grab and try out a few ... ER? .. Tried of an install CD and see what happens?

COB : - Yes 363 Im sure of that myself too!

I have based my info on that with the 32Bit jobs, although as I said, when intergrating them into the CD, Im sure that they were all catered for? - CAnt remember now, but off the floppy, I am 99% sure it 363?

Thanks again both.

Some annoyance with my DS3 at present.

Stable clock I've been running for months on my E6300 is 450x7 = 3.15Ghz at 1.4v. Got it in there with 2GB of Ballistix PC5300.

Now if I bump the CPU volts up to 1.45 and overclock in Windows to about 465x7 = 3.25Ghz, the system is perfectly stable. Had it running at 467, ran Orthos for a while, played a couple of hours of Crysis and UT3 and it was fine.

But in the BIOS it will not go past about 455x7, whatever I do. Tried increasing FSB and MCH voltage all the way to +0.3 as well as locking the PCI-E freq at various levels - it makes no difference. It starts to POST but when displaying the CPU info it just hangs at the point where it comes up "CPU Patch ID.." Couple of secs later it shuts off and reboots at stock settings.

Here's the odd bit. It's not a CPU limitation because I can run 465x7 all day in Windows. But it doesn't seem to be a chipset/FSB thing either because it will boot from 465x6 in BIOS. Yet setting 465x7 kills it every time, even with loads of vCore.

Any ideas?

That IS strange!

I can get past 320x10 on mine :(

will post what i got in the morning :o

Bah, here was me faffing about with Nlite wanting to integrate the SATA drivers when I read on this thread that I don't need to at all! :D Oh well, at least I got all the latest hotfixes in, should save a bit of downloading :p

What I want to ask is about what Loadsamoney said about Windows seeing them as "emulated PATA": the drives in question already have data on them - this "emulation" business won't corrupt the data in any way will it?

Oh yeah, are there any custom overclocking BIOSes or tweaked drivers I should be aware of, like there were for older motherboards?

Nope it will be fine - it just 'tells' the motherboard how to use the hard disk.

Not that I've seen.

Ok installed some Crucial Ballistic pc2 8500 ram into a ds3 rev.1 bios ver. f10 and whenever I run CPU-Z (ver. 1.43) it has my memory showing as pc2- 6400 (400mhz) .... Now I know for sure I have 8500 ram so Im guessing Ive missed something in the bios ... could someone list the correct settings please ...
