Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Are they the same as what you had in there before? Check the RAM volts in BIOS and the timings. You may need to up the chipset volts a notch due to the extra 2 sticks.

yes same sticks.

if you read a few posts back I already upped the voltage to the max to pass memtest.

They are supposed to run at 4 4 4 12 but I'm running them more relaxed at 5 5 5 18 anyway

Hi all,

My DS3 paired with a E6300 is still going strong since May 2007. I'm thinking about upping the RAM and going to a x64 OS I'd like to get some advice on what RAM config to get.. I currently have GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz. Am looking at getting 4GB total.. is it best to have a mem config of 2x 2GB?

Am quite pleased this board supports quad core! How well does it OC quadcores?

I have had people telling me 2x 2GB is better so I've sold off my Ballistix and GeIL and gone with some 8500 2x 2GB G.Skill.

I had 4GB in my P35C DS3R and it was fine, E8500 at 4Ghz fine, E6600 at 3.4Ghz 850Mhz 4-4-4-12 on the ram since october last year.

2GB of the ram in my P35 was GeIL Ultra PC6400C4 too so another 2gig set should be fine.

Excellent thank you. So OCing with 4 sticks will pretty much offer the same results? Can you believe that when I ordered the same 2GB set in May 2007 it cost me £135  . £29 is MUCH better :D

My DS3's still going after 18 months of Folding abuse. Memory-wise it seems quite tolerant - I'm running a combination of 2x1GB OCZ Platinum 6400 and 2x1GB Ballistix 5300. Needs a slight 0.1v bump on the chipset to get it stable with 4 sticks - that takes it up to about 850Mhz with the quad.

Quad-core overclocking hasn't been bad as long as the vCore is lowish. My Q6600 goes to 3200Mhz (400x8) on about 1.32v. But I can't get much more out of it - I don't think the power circuitry is up to heavy quad OCing. Have to set 1.45v in the BIOS to get 1.35v actual and it's not very stable. Haven't pushed it further for fear of blowing the voltage regulators. Pretty good if you're not going for huge OCs, though.

Be really careful with that program on Vista x64! I tried to update my BIOS with a recent version of it and it crashed halfway through, meaning I couldn't restart my rig until I'd figured out how to flash it back! Fortunately I found an older version of it which worked.

Currently running q6600 at 3.19 very happily. This is with a freezer 7 hsf 44oC idle don't know what it is at load. Running 2x2gb corsair dominator 8500. I've had this board since February last year and its still going strong.

Then set it to ENABLE and give it another shot?

Also, for what its worth, Im currently tryign to update the BIOS on my DS4 right now from F10 to F11 and its failing but only because its not getting the update from any of the offered sites! )

I then went to the gigabyte site and downloaded the files manurely ( hehe ) and they have failed to come too! - Perhaps its somethign like that, thats stopping you from updating?

Hi All,

I have a 965p DS3 with my e6600 set to run at 3ghz, this works well and is very stable.

My question is about my memory, it's 2*2gb Dominator 8500, what timings should it be at?, I am a newb to all this and from what I can read in the bios screen it's not running at anything like the 1066 it should be.

Do I simply set the memory multiplier to 3 or 4?

Any help / advice greatfully received

Set the memory multi to x3, and set the 4 main timings to 5-5-5-18.

You won't be able to run the memory at 1066mhz unless you drop the CPU multi and run 3ghz with a higher FSB eg - running 429x7 would give you 3ghz and let you set the memory to 1071mhz using the x2.5 memory multiplier.
