Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Hi. I've got a 965P DS3 and I'm wondering what the best BIOS for it is. There are three recent ones - F13q, F13o and the F13x. I'm hoping to get an E8400 when they fall to below £100.

Also, can you use a USB stick with Q-Flash?

I upgraded my Gigabyte DS3 Rev1.0 Core2 Duo E6300 for a Q6600 SLACR and kept the existing Freezer Pro. The Q6600 (2.4Ghz not overclocked yet) is at 38-40C just browsing and e-mailing. Room temp is currently 22C. Core Temp is showing 40-40-38-38C.

It was a real pig to re-fit the Freezer Pro with Artic Silver 5 instead of the original thermal pad, the pins that go into the mobo were all bent out of shape and a pain to straighten with pliers. The first time temps went up to 50-60C so I knew it wasn't back on the board right and had to try to fit again.

My board incidentally doesn't like 4GB of RAM (even without overclocking) but is fine with 3GB.

Ive got 4gb dominator 8500. IS running at 3.33 stable so far. I think I may have to try removing the freezer and reseat it. I've got a P180 with 3 front fans and 2 rear fans surely it should be cooler then it currently is.

Just downloaded easytune 6. What a brilliant little util. Can see my temps and easily oc'ed the gpu and got my highest score on 3dmark06 and vantage so far.

Got home from work and decided to quickly reseat and apply a better layer of as5. Temps are a lot better now. Last night running it at 3.33ghz playing titan quest I got a bsod. Checked temp in bios and it said 88oC. Might try 3.33 with lower volts. Think I will invest in a better cooler in the future. Especially one that bolts on instead of those ridiculous plastic clips.

No mate, the board will be fine...

Mine is exactly the same but only with GEIL RAM.

2 are fine but 4 sticks and its simply a matter of re-seating them... Trust me mate, it only does this with 4 sticks and it only does it with GEIL but the board will run just fine with 4 sticks, it really will.

Its just that getting them right is a right royal pain in the "R"s

It did this incidentally when I upped from 2x512MB to 4x512MB and again when I upped from 2x1GB to 4x1GB - any 2 were fine but 4 and it went poo poo and in both cases it was only me taking a little time to get them seated right.

I have spent like a fool to stop the thermonuclear temps of the North bridge cooler, and the LAVA-Esque temps of the CPU but I have yet to find anythign that I am completely happy with.

I have NB Coolers to die for that I have thrownm into PCs that really dont need it just to justify my spending and in the end, I have gone back to the stock cooler, and thrown a 40mm fan onto it, and the CPU is cooled down wit ha Fairly chunky Titan Vanessa that was given to me by InsanCen ( Cheers dude - doing a good job )

SpeedFan is showing me at 54c on core 0 on a Q6600 @ 3.6, but thats also down to the case fans too

Just installed another 2
1GB Corsair Modules (Have a Total of 4 GB)
CM1X1024-6400

No matter what I do I get errors on Memtest with 4 modules installed.

I tried every single induvidually and they all test ok.

2 Modules fitted test OK too, but as soon as I put 4 in I'm getting errors & windows keeps crashing.

ANy Ideas ?

I had one irritating issue with my DS3 in that 2 sticks of RAM was fine, but 4 was not.

I went with 2x512MB then upped to 4x512MB and then I had issues.
I went with 2x1GB and it was fine and then 4x1GB and issues again.

Now, on this note, I will confess that it was ONLY with the GEIL ram, the corsair was fine and when I shuffled the sticks to make doubly sure they were seated correctly and they were perfect after that.

Also I had to nudge the voltage up a notch too... The first BIOS I had, I had to use the corsair to get into the BIOS to set the Voltages and then slap the geil in afterwards, but from about F7 it ran the RAM fine as-is.

Maybe upping the BIOS might bring some luck too? - I think its F13 now?

So, thats my choices...

1 - Seating arrangement
2 - Voltage
3 - BIOS

Thanks for the quick replies.

Been running F12 since released
Had to up the MCH to +3V (Maximum it would let me)

And the DDR Voltage +6V to get memtest to run ok.

However it still crashes in windows XP/orthos

I also noticed it's only showing 3.25GB RAM in XP ????!!!!!

You are limited to that size with XP as it is only 32bit. You'll need XP Pro x64 edition or a 64bit version of Vista to get the whole 4GB.
