Talking of the ranked against similar skill issue. Play Arena...
You get to see the trueskill it ranked you at after you play three games on one particular day. Play 3 games and get "trueskilled" on 10 seperate days in a season and it'll place you in an appropriate league.
As far as I'm aware there is no matching of skill in any of the other playlists. Shame.
Also there's no ranked FFA any more which is a real shame, I quite liked Lone Wolves in halo 3 MP
Not that I've played enough to get placed into a league yet, far too distracted by WoW and Arena's all team playlists, so great if you have a regular group who are all competant and up for Arena, but otherwise not too great.

Been on fire fight all day though doing all 4 challenges !! Nice 7k
Hopefully I hit 1k before Monday.

Well managed to get the 1000 kills weekly challenge yesterday (in fact, did all of Sunday's challenges 
), chuffed
Didn't think i'd make it, but after discovering the awesomeness that is multi-team I soon raked in the kills. Plus multi-team is now my fave MP mode
Also finally hit Lt. Col yesterday! So now the only achievement stopping me from having the full 1000G is the stupid leap and assassinate effort.
Eitherway I'm on target to be Lt Col. Gr3 before the mission pack hits

I have finished the campaign and now i,m going to start some multiplayer. I have never really played much halo online but really want to give this a go. Do they have like beginner leagues or can i just expect to get mullered constantly..

..You should get matched with people of similar skill (if you choose that option in your MP config).
In other news, I need some folks to come do HALO 3 Legendary as it's the only prerequisite I don't have for the last CQB helmet in Reach (and typically that's the one I want, and the only one I don't have unlocked!).
