Official Home Gym Building Thread

Yeah I do think now and again I would like cables for tricep pushdowns but can make do with skulls, kick backs etc and then one arm rows and BOR instead of seated cable rows. Each to their own.

I would save the extra £50 get the CF475 and make do with alternative exercises until you can then afford the cables.

They are getting expensive on Powerhouse fitness now, I only paid £270 for my CF475 back in December. It was £290 but I emailed and asked if they could do any better and they knocked £20 off.

What alternatives are there to lat pull downs? Lets stay I want to stick to the Bodymax CF376R Half Cage with Lat Attachment is it a good buy?

I would just get the CF475, you don't NEED cables but I agree they are a nice addition to have as it will give you more exercises to do so you can mix it up. But you can get them whenever you can afford too. You will not get held back because you don't have them.

If your spending out then do it properly rather then possibly regret it in the future.

Get a decent cage, this will have a pullup bar for chins/pullup variants that will hit the lats nicely. Then you have bent over rows or single arm bend over db rows.

Also having a cable tower in the cage means you can't have a mirror in front of you for form checking.

Look at reviews if you can find them, they aren't from well known manufacturer's, so no idea how good they are.

Also would you be looking to add dip bar's or pull up bar in the future? As it has already been shown above they are expensive at £85+.

IMO it would be better to stick that £85+ in now and buy a better rack which comes with dip and pull up bars, like the powertec for example.

Otherwise in the long run your gonna end up spending the same money for an inferior product.

If money is an issue, then join a gym or do body-weight exercises or buy stuff second hand. I could have gotten a gymratz power rack for pennies a few years back second hand, had i already not bought a rack brand new. It was from a commercial gym which had closed down.

everyone should re-furb their gear once every 5 years imo, to keep it looking brand new, it should also last longer and can then be used by younger generations of the family, etc.

that's one of the main reason's i bought my equipment, so it can be passed on.

looks like you got some great deals there, i would look at rustoleum spray paint too, it's what i used last time, also i found you ideally need to wait a full day in between coats. i also found that an initial preparation day is a must, where you basically spray everything with WD-40 and go over it with a wire brush to remove any flaky paint, rust, etc. Otherwise your new paint will just chip off.

It's just a rebrand of the valorfitness bd7, one of amazon usa top rated and selling power racks, you won't find anything close for value for money for sale in the uk.theres a demo of It on YouTube.£225 for a power rack with low and high pulleys that has users reporting holds 600 pounds plus with ease.

Those catchers wouldn't take much weight being dropped on them.

Since when?I have the rack, they are solid 1 inch round steel

Seen that exact rack catcher? The Internet should have plenty of reports of bending since it sells so well on amazon usa, care to provide a link?

It's not from the internet, this is from a gym I've been to where I've seen it and someone explained they dropped the bar off their back during a squat.

1 inch steel is 1 inch steel, unless your friend was squatting way above the weight limit then I'm calling ********.

Well Djdom and icecold would confirm but they are on holiday. Either way, do what you want.

One inch steel varies widely. Soft, regular carbon steel is only slightly harder than microwaved butter, whereas tool steel is harder than dried Weetabix and almost as brittle.

Yes, I am a materials scientist. :)

If you care, read up on the Ivanko website about how they make their bars, and how those bars get bent. ;)

How are you finding the rack? I looked at reviews for the valorfitness bd7 and it's amazing for the price. Looking st that YouTube video and the comments left on HUKD (which I posted) I think I'm gonna get it. The only issue I have I might be banging my head on the ceiling of the garage when doing pull ups. Also using a 7 foot bar means I have very little room on either side to put my weights on. 20kg plates are gonna be awkward to put on.

Rock solid, Everytime I look at it I can't believe I paid so little, the pulleys are smooth as butter, build quality is great, couldn't ask for anymore.I was about to buy the cf475 for 500 with the pulleys and saw this rack on ebay.Thought it was too good to be true so found a thread on the ukmuscle forum where everyone was singing its praises, someone mentioned it was a rebrand of the bd7 so checked amazon reviews which were also great which made me order it.

Unless you think you are going to be pushing a 650+ squat or are doing 700 pound rack pulls then I see no reason not to buy.Took me around 2 hours to put together, cames in 3 boxes, ordered on the Sunday, arrived on the Tuesday.

Sounds awesome. My garage is only 8 foot wide so when using a 7 foot bar I'm not gonna have much room to play with. Gonna place my order soon, the fact that it's a rebranded bd7 has sold it for me :-)
