Official Home Gym Building Thread

I've figured out a bit of a work around to save me buying a new mirror. It's just an old wardrobe door that was in the house when we moved in, the frame looks awful but the actual mirror is OK. It turns out, I can take it out of the frame and then mount it directly to the wall with a Fischer fixing kit which will look a lot cleaner and save me some cash.

This seems pretty no regret? And then maybe this adjustable dumbbell - https://braingain.fit/collections/adjustable-dumbbells/products/40kg-adjustable-dumbbell-pair-1 (£350 [less £15] for 5kg to 40kg in 2kg increments).

Doesn't seem bad, depending how high shipping is.
Worth checking here as well:

Think it'd be £265 for the same plate numbers, free shipping, you may also be able to get 5/10% off your first order, not sure if it applies to items already on offer though. They also have well rated (I believe) adjustables which may be worth a look.

Sold out :( But yes this is what I was planning (I think you linked them earlier).

I have a rack - M3. I need a "starter kit" barbell and weights so I can get form right.

Looks like the start of a great little home gym there. Nice solid looking mats, and a decent starting-point rack.

I'd suggest getting a stereo in there at some point -- to crank out the tunes when you are getting at it.

Also, I replied to your post on the Gym Thread here -- hope you found it useful.

All the best.

Possibly moving house in the summer which will mean kissing goodbye to our garage gym which has come together so nicely over the years :(... but it's not all bad as the new house has an integral double garage so about 2x as much room :p. Anybody on here got an integral garage and tried to do anything to insulate it? I'm trying to figure out what would be best to do to go a bit further than I did in our current one (single skin detached garage, where I essentially just put down stall mats and slapped some white paint on the walls, and a few celotex boards on the rearside of the garage door) - because that thing was blood freezing/baking at the different times of year... Not sure we want to fully commit to a total garage conversion with planning permission etc. but only just starting to think about it. Any ideas?

What's the going rate for second hand plates? I've finally got around to getting shiny new ones so have 165kg of tri grip iron plates to shift. I was going to stick them on FB but not sure how much I should be asking for them.

My parents have an internal garage, the biggest thing was adding insulation to the door (standard steel up and over) - makes a big difference to winter & summer

Nice yeah, it made a bit of a difference in our existing garage but it's still freezing in winter and baking in summer. I'm not sure how big of a difference to expect from it being an integrated rather than detached garage. But if I can get away with not going too overboard to make it comfortable I will do, will need to see how it is once we are in

I've got an integral garage and have done what I can do insulate it over the years. Swapping the door to a better fitting double insulated one made the biggest difference but it can still get cold in there over winter. This year, I attached a quilted sheet around the door frame to cut out any draughts which seemed to bring the temperature up a degree. I have a thermometer in there and it can drop down to 8C in the mornings during the coldest spells but usually hovers around 10C in Jan/Feb. My next step this year is to get some thicker rubber mats as I only bought cheap ones which might make the floor feel a bit better.

It's great in summer, but in the winter it can be a bit of a struggle to have the motivation to get in there in the mornings when it's single digits.
