****OFFICIAL I7 980x HEX CORE OVERCLOCKING THREAD****

I'm sure it's because they used a older CPU-Z, as it dont even say the revision, it's just blank. Think B1 is the only revision so far.

Yup, the new version, 1.54 displays it correctly:

Got my 980X yesterday...

4160MHz stable with NO other bios settings but upping the FSB to 160. This is with HT on aswell. Nothing but FSB changed.
Easiest OC i've ever had.

I'm waiting for new RAM for my Gigabyte UD7 mobo as it dont want to boot. So this OC is on the Asus P6T Deluxe.
I can get 4320MHz stable with extra voltage. And over 4.4GHz with HT off. Hopefully the UD7 will go higher...

Swiftech GTZ CPU block and triple radiator water cooling.

This is an impressive processor, I have always relied on the BIOS overclocking facility to over clock my PC (the mother board I am using is the , Asus Rampage II Extreme with BIOS update) until I got this one, all I did was set the BIOS to manual, type in 160 on the BCLK, that's all I did, the six processors are running @ 4173.4 and the memory is running at 1600.
So far it's as solid as a rock, it's difficult to tell the temperature as one (Core Temp 64) gives me a reading of 74- 64 but the next software (CPUID hardware monitor) gives a range of 35 -46 so I am not sure which one to believe.

The cooling I am using is a Corsair H50 push pull Noctua NF-P12 Vortex fans!
All I can say is WOW, yes you can see the difference on most every day things you do, is it worth £900 Hmmmm not sure (YET) As I bought it for a birthday present to myself;)

OH and a huge thanks to Overclockers for the very fast delivery, first rate service as usual

I did some slight googling and it has dual QPI's allowing it to run in a dual socket. Don't see why they won't be a dual socket motherboard, if the chip supports it. If so, thats what a lottery win will go on. Now, to win the lottery.

People say hex-core chips are overkill for desktop use at the moment.

You can now get laptops that can take one of these without problems, just by updating the bios

Dam you guys are putting your voltages high IMO they should be under 1.3 at all times

You dont seem to know much about overclocking... because 1.3 is nothing. Most CPU's need more than that to be OC'ed. The last ten OC'ed CPU's i've had have all been run at 1.37 - 1.5 24/7 and thats very common for anyone who overclocks. Never killed a CPU.

To all owners of this great processor - can you post which batch number you got from Ocers as I am thinking of taking the plunge, but need to see what batches are coming up.

Many thanks in advance to all you lucky owners.

Bump

Anybody care to share which batch they got and vcore needed etc

I dont want to hijack this thread...but I know nothing of overclocking. I dont play games. But I do lots and lots of 3d work (started last year) so I obviously need to do lots and lots of rendering.

Was wondering whether this CPU would kick ass on rendering speeds compared to my Q9650 that I am using now.

This is purely hypothetical - 800 squids is a lot...but i am a sucker for shiny things. Is it extreme overkill..like killing a wasp with an atomic bomb?? I do need to render heavy scenes as quick as possible though...Thanks :)

No matter what you wanted this Chip for it would kick ass. If you have the cash just do it.
