though because he got punted into the barrier.Agreed. There needs to be a middle ground. Fixing damage is fine to me, but changing tyres shouldn't be allowed.I don't fully agree with the F1 red flag rules although I think fixing damage should be allowed. But the changing tyres is nuts
Maybe something like only being able to fix damage that would give you the meatball. So part damaged and dangerous, change. Part clean broken but "still driveable safely", tough luck, do a lap and pit?
Alternatively find a way of classifying them as pitstops under red flag and shuffle them back.
Though the teams would all try and game these hard I suspect. Indy seems to be OK being a little rough and ready with the racing vs F1.
