***Official Intel Haswell Thread***

Looking again at the performance/overclocking figures for the last 3 generations am I right in thinking that roughly speaking in terms of performance figures:

4770k @ 4.4 GHz ≈ 3770k @ 4.6 GHz ≈ 2600k/2700k @ 4.8 GHz?

With Haswell at 4.4 GHz maybe having a slight but not really noticable advantage and lower power consumption? Assuming I don't really fancy messing around with delidding Haswell, a 2nd hand SB (or a 3770k which is known to be a good clocker) is looking like the better option to me, particularly considering the price of SB i7 these days.

Mine clocks like a dog, which I expected.
1.35v for 4.6GHZ. >.<

Wow, unlucky, my SB chip does better :(

Somehow I don't fancy Haswell as much as I did a week ago... Do we think the general resistance to good overclocks might be a factory issue that they'll amend in later batches, or is it inherent to how they're being made now and in the future?

I wouldn't have thought so; If it's unstable at stock i'd think more of RMA'ing it stating that it doesn't function with the supplied cooler. Otherwise some fool RMA tester will hook it up to the latest super cooler and tell you it does work.

I don't know if it's unstable at stock, it could just be not liking my RAM.
But as far as I'm aware, you can and always have been able to RMA a retail product, it's just then sold as B-Grade.

are you catching any codes when it bsod's? looking in event viewer for any warnings/errors?

setting x.m.p for your memory?

still could be flakey bios, usually the case with new platforms

If you look around you can pick one up for £140-150.

May look for one before I jump on the Haswell bandwagon then, only another 120 posts until I can get on the MM. Poor Q6600 seems to be struggling at the mo with random freezes and the loss of graphics output.

Don't have any errors now as I've got it stable at underclocked memory and 1.2v in the CPU at 4GHZ, it's a fresh install.

XMP last time I used was unstable on this set up.

Ye after reading reviews i am not even bothered to get haswell atm.....
Cause what sort of gold chip i would need to pass my 5ghz sandy.... One that does 4.8 and by looks of it we have 1 or 2 of those on forums atm......

Yeah, 4.5-4.6 on Haswell will match a 5GHz SB and 4.8 will def pass it, but it would be so close that is it really worth the effort?...
