Haswell mainstream will use existing DDR3, I think only Haswell-EP will rock DDR4.

There's talk that Broadwell mainstream will support DDR4, but no idea if that's true or not. If true then it would probably mean a mobo compatibility break between the two CPU's.

Thanks! I'll pick up the RAM now if I see a good offer. :) Can't wait for my next upgrade. This thing I'm using is getting very long in the tooth. :p

edit: Whoops. Forgot to ask if it was dual, tri, or quad RAM. :)

Dual channel on the mainstream CPU's. Yeah its not a bad idea to pick your RAM up sooner than later, its amazingly cheap compared to what it used to cost.

The harder decision may be whether to go for 8gb or 16gb; until recently I've never felt the need to go above 8gb, but with the news that PS4 and Xbox 720 are likely to ship with 8gb each I can't help but wonder if 16gb might be better for "future proofing"?
 
Think I'll be upgrading my 2500k to the top Haswell chip, need HT this time round and may as well go for the best. Is DDR4 memory in the pipleline for the near future?

After Haswell is my guess. DDR4 is available for Intel to develop with.
 
Hmmz, good find. That could be really annoying if they don't fix it, or it could result in a delay which would be even more annoying.
 
yeah i was reading that the other day, gonna bug allot of people, and watch out for the early arrival of budget buy laptops n pc with haswell chips =) (they gotta move em somehow)

Where's the optional 6-pin? Am i blind?
Or have they worded that badly and what they mean is that you can plug in 4 of the 6pins from a PCI-E connector to provide more power to the VRMs?
