***Official Ivybridge Overclock Thread***

Awesome is an understatement... we should all go mob eyetrip and fight over his chip...

It's nice to get lucky on the silicone lottery for once :)

Didn't even know what people were using volts-wise until I posted, but was surprised to find most are using over 1.2V for like 4.5GHz.

Would be nice to know what it would be capable of without the ihs... but I am not brave enough to do that.

Yet :D

Not sure about 5+ but the only bet that I will take with certainty is that Ollie 'will' whine about his temps again in this thread :D

Let me fix that for you :)

Think I may just try 4.9 and see how it goes.

As long at ibt very high temps don't go above mid 90's I can live with it.

I know at 5GHz I WILL break 100C, but I might just manage 4.9 :D

looks like 4.9 takes around 1.24V

So much for settling at 4.8 :D

Do the i7s clock better/worse or the same as the i5?

Just interested for comparison reasons

The I7's certainly seem to be better binned chips on the whole.
All the higher end clocks I've seen around the web with air and water and my own experience with 2 3570k and 2 3770k, the I7's clock higher with less volts.

Would going Z77 sabertooth give me any benefits apart from maybe clocking my ram better?

I already know my Z68 board is capable of pushing my chip quite nicely, so is it possible I could land up taking a step back in performance cpu-wise?

Waste of time?

well my msi z77a gd65 seems to be my problem.

4.5ghz 45x100 1.2vcore = 18hours prime95 stable
4.5ghz 45x100 1.28vcore = fails prime instantly

3.5ghz 35x100 1.28vcore = fails prime instantly

3.5ghz 35x100 1.35vcore = bsod at windows logo

3.5ghz 35x100 1.4vcore = bsod at bios logo

can any 1 shed any light on this problem or does it just seem like my board is ****!! wonder if i can RMA due to this problem.

It hit 100c priming last night. Since Im usibg top air Im gonna conplain all I like about my temps! :p when you pay £550 for a cpu, cooler and motherboard to lose the silicon lottery bloody sucks.

I just wish I could get 5GHz under 100C :D

Seriously considering either getting a sabertooth z77 or selling on the samsung green.

Don't even seem to be able to reliably hit 1866, so I may as well stick with my Kingston 1600MHz I have not sold yet...

I saw up to 103C before stopping. Don't imagine it would have gone much higher, but I won't push past mid 90's using IBT, which means best I will probably manage is 4.9GHz.

I just don't want to remove the IHS.

I have no doubt something would go wrong, like I'd crush the cpu when remounting the cooler.
