*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Yeah, don't use mapped drives :)

I would also remove all HomeGroups too - it's another layer of complexity to the file sharing which you have very little control over.

^Yup

I ditched homegroup. At first I was impressed with it, but it soon caused odd issues.

Now I just use read only shares, and I give my server and XBMC machine static IP's (set by the router)

guys, I asked elsewhere but didn't really get an accurate answer. I'm using the amber theme on a HTPC. I've added a new menu TV Shows. How do I add a submenu? ie, how do I then make the menu option clickable so that I can actually see the TV shows.

I just really don't like the Aeon Nox theme :( Amber is based on the old Quartz theme

Surely I can just edit an xml file somewhere?

So, Movies (a default menu item)

And TV Shows which I could add in the Theme settings, but there is no way to then say what that menu does....#RAGE

See, no sub menu :(

Anyone else ever had a trailer automatically named incorrectly, so it show up as Trailer War? If so, next time watch the streamed trailer for it - hilarious.

Unification of video/tv/music libraries across multiple xbmc machines.

All you need to do is set it up on the master machine and ensure that the video mappings are all network based (eg samba) even on the master machine

Client machines point to the master mysql database and have the same video mappings.

So if I'm kicked off the telly in the living room I can resume the video that I was watching at the exact same place using my laptop or the desktop. It's neat and surprisingly works well

I so want this..but it looks to complicated to sort out?:o

The thing that bites people and bit me too when I first tried it is that when you add video locations they MUST be to a valid network location or static IP even if the videos are located locally.

eg
smb://media.home.medomain.net/Videos
nfs://media.home.medomain.net/Videos
etc

That share must be accessible to all machines on your network and all machines must resolve 'media.home.medomain.net' or whatever yours is called.

MySQL setup is straight forward too as xbmc populates the data 'provided' you can set up a username/password to access the MySQL (your bit)

Finally it's all wrapped up in a couple of xml settings file for XBMC. If you post your advancedsettings.xml / sources.xml file (location C:\Users\[YOUR USERID]\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\userdata ) then I'm sure we can help or point to where you're going wrong

I had mine set up brilliantly, had my main htpc in the living room always on and updating the mysql database for others in bedrooms etc.....but then....i updated my freenas and lost it all! Be warned, take backups!

Never had anything like this happen - What did you lose ? Just keep all xbmc versions the same and you're golden

You don't need to.

I, however, do have XBMC running on my server, because it's the only machine that's on 24/7, and therefore it deals with ensuring that the library is up to date - it gets notifications from Sickbeard/CouchPotato.

Have you tried the Arctic theme? It's brilliant IMO, and has a customisable submenu for you...

The best things ever - however, I don't think we're strictly allowed to talk about them here, so I don't want to say too much and get this thread locked/deleted.

Think of them as internet-based PVR applications.

Sickbeard/couchpotato basically auto grabs TV Shows/Films torrent/NZB files then sends them to your downloader. When setup correctly, its completely automated and can grab, download, extract, rename and move your stuff, so its just sat there ready to be watched.

I've got mine setup on my NAS and works awesomely. Although I dont personally use Couchpotato as much. Sickbeard is simply epic.
