*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Guys,

I am Currently running RASPBMC on my raspberry Pi, but I have been thinking of changing my media centre solution.

What exactly would I need to be able to play live TV, and run XBMC.

Is it just a simple case of getting a media PC, with a TV tuner and installing XBMC?

The only device I have ever used XBMC on is my Pi and looking for a bit of advice.

You could still do it on the Pi, but you would need a server running the TV Server backend and the TV card can be installed there.

I'm now running a small Acer Revo machine with a USB DVB-S dongle and XBMC on the same machine, so you have a few different options.
The advantages of having a dedicated TV Server is that you can have a big ugly case with plenty of hard drives and multiple TV cards.

Or one big old sexy case in an Ikea Lack table as a 'LackRack' :D

Planning to place it in the airing cupboard and turn the radiator off that's in there

Since upgrading xbmc I've lost all the artwork for my TV shows. It has the info about them, but no fan art or covers. Movies are fine, its just TV. Any ideas?

What a bizarre concoction. Please do share the final pics when it's finished as i'm struggling to understand why someone would buy a brand new table, then strap a server case on the side only to be hidden in the airing cupboard :D

Indeed.

I've got a lack ready for a 24 port patch panel and a gigabit switch. The table costs £5 from ikea and is the perfectsize.

if you upgraded from XBMC 11 (eden) to 12 (frodo), there was a change in the way images were stored. You could try deleting the file called texturesxx.db in the [appdata]/xbmc/userdata/database folder. Make sure xbmc is shut down.

Then when you start up it should start rebuilding that database, but it will take a while, and it only shows thumbnails as you browse through the library. So scroll through it fast and leave it for a while.

It could also be a skin issue. See if the images show up in the default confluence skin.

So, who uses external player for XBMC. I think the default one appears dire compared to say MPC-BC. It's quite grainy!!

So, I made xbmc point to MPC-HC but now of course, my ipad official xbmc remote no longer controls the player...Is there a config I can change to passthrough remote commands to the MPC player?

I just let XBMC send the digital stream via HDMI then let my TV post process it. I don't imagine that XBMC does anything other than stream it as per the source.

I think you misunderstand. I'm using xbmc on a Windows HTPC. By default, it uses it's own internal player which is pretty shocking. I've pointed it to use Media Player Classic instead. Now, when I choose to FFWD or RWD on the iPad remote, that input is not translated through to MPC. I want it to be :)

I'm having a major nightmare these past few days, to the point of considering selling my Acer Revo and giving up on XBMC to go back to a WDTV Live.

Since updating to OpenELEC Fusion 3.2.3 the DHCP occasionally picks up some obscure IP address, DNS etc and cannot connect to the internet or NAS. I thought I'd fixed it for a couple of weeks when I manually set the IP etc. but then randomly one day couldn't connect yet again. Really annoying when you just want to spend a Friday night having a glass of wine and watching a movie, then suddenly spend all night annoying your better half by trying to problem solve until the middle hours of the morning.

After a full day messing around, I gave up and next time I booted all was strangely well again - until I tried to play a movie and for the first ever time was met with a buffering dialogue every few minutes. Something isnt right.

Setup is: Acer Reco running OpenELEC Fusion 3.2.3 -> network hub -> CAT5 to Virgin Superhub

Just cannot think what would all of a sudden cause the buffering, I've played 20GB+ 1080P DTS MKV for months now without a hitch.

Any suggestions? Restarted the router, NAS, network hub etc etc.

You assign a static ip on the machine itself not your router. Unfortunately given you are using openelec I have no idea how you would go about it.

Oh then I've already tried that, via OpenELEC settings. It was all manually setup with a fixed IP, but then it still strangely couldn't connect all of a sudden one night. I thought a router/hub restart would resolve but it didn't.

At present its connected, but buffering constantly which is the first time ever. It clearly sounds like some sort of network issue but cannot figure out what

Have you tried XBMCbuntu instead ?

I have a revo and use the windows xbmc. I was also having buffering issues with high bit rate 1080p's. To solve it I installed XBMC Gotham alpha. Gotham lets you set a cache for video. I set up a 50MB cache and it has (so far only did it last night) cured my buffering issues.

how do I do that with a Superhub?

On the new superhub there is a section in the advanced settings called "DHCP Reservation" where you can reserve an IP for a specific machine....Hopefully all the hubs can do it

Its been working for me so far :-)
