**** Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Thread ****

Thanks for the alert @Zeeflyboy

As mentioned in this thread before, the last 3 game updates haven't worked for me. Ended up having to completely uninstall and reinstall the game to be able to play at all.

So with trepidation I fired up the MS store earlier and checked for updates - lo and behold MSFS was there and it's all updated perfectly! No idea why it has this time and wouldn't before. Incredibly annoying and random but all part of the charm of this sim I guess.

Travesty with downloading SU5 for me but this time was pleasantly painless and fast speeds too.

As always don't forget to check Marketplace for world update and content manager for updates, there were quite a few in the latter this time. They could really do with streamlining the whole process, instead I have to do 4 separate updates - launcher, game content, marketplace WU module, and other content all requiring individual initiation.

Slightly disappointed there wasn’t a GVA update, nor photogrammetry for Geneva itself. Guess I’ll finally have to buy the redwing version!

The new "Off screen terrain caching" is not there for VR graphics settings! It's there for normal, not VR. What a crock of ***** (I only play in VR now). Still therefore getting the awful pop in when switching views etc.

They really need to start giving VR more attention.

They strongly suggested that VR will receive a lot of love towards the end of the year… we’ll see I guess.

Re caching I think it was probably a mistake (not like them to make a mistake ), the option is in the usercfg file for VR so you can manually set it to what you want, there’s just no in game settings menu item for it.

In the UserCfg.opt scroll down to VR graphics and you'll see OffscreenTerrainPreCaching is enabled (1) but will quality will be set to 1 which is medium/default. Change that to 2 for high or 3 for ultra.

So it is. Christ that's sloppy, at least get the menu settings right it's not hard is it.

Will have a play with the OffscreenTerrainPreCaching settings and see how it is. It's set to Quality 1 by default which is the lowest (3 is ultra according to the non VR settings).

I think 0 is the lowest, 1 is medium (previous default), 2 is high and 3 is ultra.

argh this is frustrating but the update isn't appearing in the MS Store for me!!

btw I'm sure a lot of peeps are already doing it but if you want to dramatically improve image quality, remove the sharpening and film grain from the config file, it makes my game look way more sharp and clear.

If you've not got it get the Xbox app from the Microsoft Store, and then recheck for updates. This as fixed the update not appearing for several people I know.

Thanks I did a Google and this was the solution for me also. Good old MS! :D

@Mr_Sukebe and @Zeeflyboy i have the payware bell 47 and the h145 and the free h135. The 47 flies the best. The h145 is similar to the h135 with nicer graphics. The h145 is expensive at $42, not sure if i recommend it. The 47 is $35 so not much better but i do feel it flies better, things like retreating blade stall are modelled. Also when using the rudder pedals on the 135/145, the subsequent left or right movement is sudden and fast and jerky, on the 47 its smoother.

When i opt for a heli i use the 47 most of the time (its great for low and slow flying), when i want to get there faster i use the 145, i never use the 135 now. The 145 requires less input from the cyclic so its easier on your arm if you want that.

WU6 didn't go smoothly for me. It went into a loop re-downloading 2.67gb. After a few loops i cancelled the download, on restarting the sim i was given the option to restart in safe mode or normal. I chose normal, the download was now 14.67gb (wtf? lol). It went into a loop on that too. So i restarted the sim in safe mode, the download now was only 381mb which it d/loaded ok, game started ok, i then did the updates in content manager.

But now each time i start the game it asks if i want to start in safe mode or normal as it detects the previous shutdown was not done properly (it was). Not exactly a massive problem, i just select normal, but still, this game amazes me with its little foibles and quirks (I won't go into how su5 on pc was nerfed so that the code base could be ran on xbox as well as pc lol).
