**** Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Thread ****

Nope - I had UK as default. Just installed the US pack as well, switched it from Azure to Windows Offline and it started working. I think I actually prefer the voices to Azure.

Thanks Michael. Do you hear the ATIS or does that working go hand in hand with ATC? I hear nothing through the radio at all. People report clicks etc.. but I haven’t heard that either.

can I just confirm that your default language is still Uk english and under speech it’s still uk English? You just have the US English pack installed as well?

thanks again!

This is my first proper go at a flight sim after having a few lessons in a real aircraft so not completely unfamiliar with the flying. Got to say I am hooked! I want some better controls but I imagine the price of anything decent went up this week..

My poor 1080 is hurting tho! Never heard its fans before.

I had lots of ATC vox tonight around the East Midlands & Norfolk area.
Loads of calls to easyjet aircraft and one to someone telling them they were 20k above their flight plan. I figure that one had to be a "player" :)

I want to get a proper hotas / joystick, which would be best for a beginner wanting to take next step?

Currently using a game pad..

I went for a Thrustmaster Hotas 4. Nothing to compare it to but has been fantastic for me. I found it very hard to control with the keys, this makes it so much easier and enjoyable.

Flew straight into the ground near my house, didn't explode or crash or anything. "Sim" my arse, uninstalled.
Black screen even if you auger in at 200 knots. Obviously to spare the sensitivity of the ********** and potential shock horror BBC/DM headlines.

TBH game has more pressing issues...

That's why after Alpha I'm not buying this game yet, will probably wait for first update and then jump on game pass, the only thing I can suggest is to check if game doesn't map axis as a button as someone mantioned you would get - or + nest to Y or X axis.
Thanks I’ll double check that.

One other factor according to something I read on Steam forums is the squirrely input is tied to frame rates. I dropped my cap from 60 to 30 FPS and did seem to make things slightly more controllable. However could just be placebo effect, more testing ro be done. At Avsim there is a thread where someone has examined the flight config of some of the aircraft and confirmed way off. Disheartenly it appears this is falling on deaf ears at Asobo who have allegedly stated they are not going to mod the default aircraft. So we have a sim which is effectively early access and an arrogant developer who doesn’t want to listen to feedback.

It probably doesn’t help that all the reviews are so positive...not sure what controllers they were using.

Above clip is from the longer vid flying over Solent, Gosport, Portsmouth and then landing at Southampton as the Solent runway is too small for this plane lol.

I also flew around Queenstown, NZ (cheers for the reminder @loltim ) and what a stunning place that is:

It really helps to lower your sensitivity a *lot* on controller.....I was getting queasy just watching :P

Valve says download time does not count towards the refund policy: https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/valve-sa...flight-simulator-wont-affect-refund-requests/

Not a huge surprise. The anger over this was based on the assumption that the 2 hour rule has no flexibility. Yet the refund policy FAQ basically says the policy is flexible, and if you've logged more than 2 hours playtime you can still request a refund (but you might not get it).

I'd have been amazed if they actually refused refunds for this given the way the install works.

Been watching FD2S for a few years now, originally watched his Pmdg tutorials then all the livestreams, he's fantastic to watch.

He's ok, but very dorky. Though if I were to pick out somebodies voice that definitely sounds like a pilot it would be his.

He also has to continually remind you that he is a real 737-800 pilot and also continually remind you that his operator doesn't mind if he tells people who he works for but instead he personally chooses to not disclose it.

FD2S - great for 737-800

But this guy, 320 sim pilot (also a real life A320 pilot), is much better for A320 flying - in particular using the Toliss A320 in XPlane, really friendly guy and has a good Discord channel.

Commercial flight in the Airbus from East Midlands to Dublin tonight. Cruising at 36,000FT (needed on such a short flight?) much smoother flight I just need to get to grips with instrument flying more. And controlling speed better on the descent oh and also planning the descent much earlier. Good landing though and taxi to the gate.

Seems unlikely that you would have FL360 as a cruising altitude for such a short flight. I'm amazed that the plane got up to that height in time unless the Cost Index was set to something ridiculous, but even then...! I'd expect somewhere in the region of FL200-FL240 at a guess. Plotting a route on Simbrief may help - this would give you your cruising altitude, but I'm not sure at the moment how to plan routes for the navblue data within something like Simbrief. I'll try and work that out tonight.

If the route is properly mapped into the flight computer then the aircraft should automatically pick out top of climb and top of descent points for you and descend automatically, though I am less familiar with Airbus aircraft.

This game seems really hard to play with just an XBOX Controller and I wish on the map it highlighted places, so the city you were flying over it actually pointed the particular place out.

Installed this yesterday via the £1 per month game pass and I'm trying to assess whether or not it's worth upgrading my PC for, my PC being a 4690k and 970 with 8GB of RAM, but with a fast SSD and 200Mb internet.

At 4K medium settings it's borderline unplayable as you might expect, but I've already seen enough to know I'm going to spooge on an upgrade once all the next iterations of hardware are out later this year.

Installing it was a little painful (had to manually delete some files) but it seems like a great game.

It is surprising how high they do climb for cost reasons though - I did a fairly short hop, around similar distance, once where they went to 32K feet or something like that.

Fair enough, not going to argue that.

FL360 for such a short flight is an incredibly aggressive climb rate! I'd imagine as soon as you get to the TOC then you'd also reach TOD! :)

I don't know much about it I just found it amusing on a few shorter flights - you do literally climb aggressively and then almost immediately start descending - I suspect it is cost related but I don't understand the mechanics at play.

EDIT: From a quick google seems a big factor is safety in that altitude gives you more options if something goes wrong i.e. selection of alternative landing sites, etc.

This was the problem i had last night as i wanted to fly over a place i been on holiday to (Andorra la vella)

But there seems to be no names on the map...
