*** Official Nintendo Wii U thread ***

I shouldn't imagine it would be worth their time, I mean they are not exactly going to shift millions of units are they if the user base isn't there!

Besides, it doesn't seem to be the game the Nintendo 'quirky' games crew would want anyway, it's far too serious and belongs on the other consoles.

Agree in part, however they have Assassins Creed and the Batman games. Using the pad as the Pip boy would be a winner and certainly get some more units sold; the Bethesda FO games are immensely popular amongst the hardcore and casual alike.

This and a price drop would go a long way solving some of the problems I feel. I think that Nintendo should flirt a bit with Bethesda over this.

Fallout game on WiiU = problem solved

That would indeed be cool :) I agree with action tho - not financially viable.

I'd be happy with more traditional platform and adventure games. A big cell shaded 3D rpg that lets you use the pad as an inventory. A reimagining of Wonderboy in Monster World, for example. The WiiU is easily capable of stunning looking games that could stand happily along side anything on the PS4 and XB1 (just like Wind Waker on Dolphin already does) - Nintendo just need to stick with styalised visuals.

I really couldn't care less how many consoles are sold. Does having 100 million consoles sold magically make the games better? No, most folk bought one for 1st party nintendo titles and a few 3rd party exclusives.

At the end of the day, the wii u will have mario kart, a mario galaxy type game, smash bros, a new metroid, bayonetta 2, donkey kong, monolith softs game and a new zelda which is FAR better than the entire exclusive catalogue from the entire 7 year 360 library.

It is a bit annoying having broken hope and his doom and gloom pals filling the entire thread, perhaps you lot should make another thread and leave this one for game news.

We're talking about the console, or are we only allowed to say awesome things about Nintendo?

You've massively exaggerated your point about the 7 year old back catalogue. Laughable.

Let's see how the Wii u is in 7 years.

I'll tell you what 100 million console sales gives you, third party devs supporting your console.

So between Pikmin 3 releasing and W101 in August 23rd there's no games being released at all and then nothing after W101 till October, what on earth do they expect people to buy or how on earth do they expect to keep momentum with that release schedule? Unless you count Pokemon Rumble which isn't going to set the world on fire with sales.

Well at the moment you have both the Wonderful 101 and Splinter Cell: Blacklist coming out on the 23rd of August and then Rayman Legends on the 30th of August...

September doesn't see anything presently if I'm correct but things may move around.

October sees Wind Waker, Sonic: Lost World, Batman: Arkham Origins...

November has Donkey Kong, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassins Creed 4, Watchdogs

Again from those 3 months alone that's 3 top titles for each...September is where the only real gap is in terms of quality titles, however of course most of these count since they're 3rd Party titles right?

Listen everyone knows it isn't selling well but people on here seem to be absolutely celebrating the point, it's not really a constructive discussion at all.

I would certainly lay the blame at Nintendo on the release and build up to the console which in my eyes was plagued by 3 main points.

1) They kept the name Wii...didn't call it 2 or anything but Wii U. The console looked the same essentially and they really only advertised the gamepad as a new way to play, wasn't effective and nobody GOT it was a new console.

2) They underestimated how much work making the jump to HD takes which they have admitted themselves. Projects were understaffed leading to delays...see Pikmin 3. Also lead to a poor 1st party line up at launch.

3) Price...kinda comes hand in hand with the correct message but it was all wrong. Big mistake in allowing the EU retailers to set their own price also as the gouging didn't quite pay off and hurt the sales. Should have come in at a much more reasonable price point.

If anyone thinks they are going to do a Sega and disappear though, which some seem to hope (so they will make games for XBO/PS4) then they will be sorely mistaken.

The Wii U failed because the tablet controller doesn't seem to offer much. Yes it can improve some games but not enough to justify paying €300 to play ports of PS360 games hence why so few bought it. I always thought it would struggle to sell while it's main opposition were the PS360 but it might fair a little better against the next gen as it will have a price advantage which will be important for families which is Nintendo's target audience.

September has Rayman Legends. May not be a wii exclusive any more but still looks AAA & the challenges app has been great.
For me, I don't think the tablet controller has to do any more than it does now.
Maps, touch shortcuts, you can pause a game, browse the net, come back to the game, play off TV. I think people waiting for some revolutionary game for the touchscreen will wait in vain. It's just a very nice comfy pad with lots of cool extras. Only some of which apply to games. The one area I'd like to see it used for is to introduce some more serious strategy games to WiiU. I think with (a lot) of work, it could handle full-fat Civilisation instead of the Revolutin cut down version on other consoles.

I still think its early days yet, even with the current poor Wii U sales, Nintendo know how to make great games too turn this console around.

Has the Wii-U even been out for 12 months yet? Sales haven't been exactly ground breaking but Nintendo are going to be pushing this console for at least half a decade. The people who are saying it has already failed are premature and it can still pick up, it undoubtedly will when some stronger first party titles are released.

Pikmin 3 has arrived. :D

You trolls mind if I enjoy it, or is that not allowed? :p

heh enjoy - it's excellent :)

and not too long until this:

Wonderful 101 does look good.

Good move by Nintendo with Platinum Games. They need to do more of it.

I'd definitely consider a Wii-U at a reduced price. Think I'll keep an eye on it over the next 6-12 months when we have a decent set of software to choose from.

They price dropped it to £199 clear the existing stock - so they had 250 in stock, price dropped it and sold that stock. People were onto it in flash - I had card in hand and by the time I got round to clicking add to cart they'd gone. It's not like it only sold 250 after the price drop because only 250 wanted it at £199 - that 250 got wiped out very very quickly.

It's just blindingly obvious it needs a drop down to £199 for the premium - people will buy it, but not at £270/£280.

Good read. Hopefully Mario World 3D, Wii Fit, and a (new to many people) Zelda will help shift some units. Nintendo make fantastic games - the only people losing out by not playing them are gamers.

It's frustrating that NSMB on the WiiU has sold so abysmally compared to the previous versions on the Wii and DS. 56.5 million vs. just 8.5! The WiiU NSMB is by far the best in the series. A further sign that consoles need to be shifted for decent games to stand a chance.

It needs more than a price drop. PS3 had a crap first year with very few games as well. It was also nearly twice the price of a Wii U and still sold better.

Explain the Amazon sales then I'm sure they had more than the 667 extra they sold when they price matched Asda.

If something like the iPad dropped £100 I'm sure they would sell thousands extra.

The PS3 was held up by the PS2 fans. The Wii didn't do Nintendo many favours when it came to their core gaming army - they're paying the price of it with the WiiU.
