*****OFFICIAL OcUK/JW IP35 Pro THREAD*****

I've noticed the motherboard manual says SPDIF IN (which is Coax) and SPDIF OUT (which is Optical). Can I connect my amp via the SPDIF IN (Coax)? Or is this for recording? (hence in?)

What is the difference between the PRO and the -S? Just second LAN and BIOS?

With the 1.3 bios it actually made me consider buying this rather than an X38 board, the price difference is that much.

Best person to comment on this would be wja though.

Hi,

For those of you not sure about this board let me reasure you....

For the Price it is an excellent buy, now that the 1.3 bios sorts out 99.9% of the issues that were in the old one.

As long as you can live without firewire and raid this is a no brainer

HD Audio
P35 chipset
ICH9 (= faster i/o of buses and sata)
Dual Bios (this saved my pc recently)
Crossfire

To name but a few

I haven't seen any x38 boards at less than £120 this is less than half that.

If your a hard core overclocker or gamer then your probably not too interested in this board.

But if like me your on a smaller budget and you want to dable in overclocking with little risk, then it's this board all day.

Paul

P.S no i don't work for J&W i just am very impresssed with this board:D

I think thats the point of this board really. Good overclocking with a very good price. Not need really to go for a 'budget board' as such, when this is an almost full feature set for a fab price. Really makes me stop and think whether I really 'need' an X38 as such.

That's a shame TWO has finished :( I get paid today (at midnight-ish). Was looking to a couple of things from the list (black dragon 4gb and possibly the IP35 motherboard).

After testing this out for 48 hours now, the new 1.3 BIOS is a vast improvement on the old one. I think the ability to disable C1E is the key to the improved overclocking with both quad-cores and dual-cores. The Q6600 that was previously stuck at 3.3-3.4GHz is now running quite happily at 3.6GHz and my E2180 that previously wouldn't move over 2.66GHz is now running very happily at 3.5GHz in the same board.

The RAM dividers are also much improved now - you actually get what you dial in. As Pauly B said - this is now a very good value board compared to most of the other P35 boards out there. It's just a shame we had to go through the V1.2 BIOS to get here.

I actually recommended this board to 3 people on here yesterday - not something I have ever done before.

Credit where it's due - J&W listened, and rewrote the BIOS very quickly - I'm looking forward to the X38 board now.

Fantastic news, good work J&W!

Good work J&W and WJA96. If J&W have any sense they should send WJA96 a pre-release X38 board F.O.C for testing, the effort WJA96 (and others) have put in would cost a lot more as a contracted out testing service (speaking as a contracted out tester ;))

Might get this board, it looks pretty cool.

Yup the way the ip35 test has gone has given me a lot of confidence in J&W to get the x38/48 board running good.

I hope all future boards are being manufactured with the 1.3 bios.

how can i flash the BIOS in DOS mode without a floppy disk drive, as i dont have one

i would prefer to flash with a USB stick or a CD

thanks all.

Did you read the link in this post?
I don't know if you can flash it from USB, but you could try by making your USB stick bootable like this.
To make a bootable CD try this <includes burning software.

Are £100 boards worth it over this? ie The Abit Ip35, Pro and Asus P5K

What are you wanting to clock?

If it's a dual-core E2x00, E4x00, E6x00, E6x70 then it's every bit as good at overclocking as the £100 boards. If it's a quad-core then you will squeeze an extra 100-200MHz out of an Abit IP35-Pro or Gigabyte P35-DS4 or P5K-E WiFi. I haven't tried it with an E8400 yet (it's waiting at the CityLink depot for me) but I don't see why it won't clock it well as this board seems to love high FSB's.

It is now a really good board. I always said the hardware was a quality item, but the old v1.2 BIOS let it down. The new v1.3 BIOS lets the hardware perform as well as it can. There are still a couple of issues (max manual tRAS setting is still 15 and the minimum manually settable voltage is higher than the VID's for the Wolfdales so underclocking them is impossible) but given the speed of response to the original issues raised, I think J&W will respond quickly and positively once again.

Yes, but you need to use the v1.92 off the J&W website.

Hi WJ

I would strongly advise against using winflash at all , I too used the version From the J&W site / guide this hung my nice fresh XP install (updates and all)
and hence my previous post on my experiance.

Also the first try corrupted my XP install so had to reformat and go again!!

I don't know about the options it asks you to set like flash all and clear Cmos .

Never had to do that before to update a bios in winflash maybe thats what did it????

My 2 pence would be get to a highstreet retailer grab a floppy drive for pittance and crack open your case and flash it via floppy.

Alright it's a pain in the rear but it's safe and easy. ;)

does any one know if this board supports & recognises the .5 multi of the 8500 as ive given up on my abit pro, too much droop & not enough support from abit.
