*****OFFICIAL OcUK/JW IP35 Pro THREAD*****

Marks out of 10 for this mobo?

I hardly think I'm the best person to ask at the moment. I'm annoyed because it just won't clock a quadcore and I don't have a dual-core without disassembling my HTPC. It doesn't have RAID, it doesn't really look like it has SATA II, the BIOS is BETA at best (remember the odd VGA options that I didn't understand before? They're options for the onboard graphics adapter (it doesn't have one), plus if you want to set the RAM timings, the options just don't go high enough, plus I genuinely think the CPU hardware timing clock wanders. If you go into the BIOS and lift the chipset or CPU FSB voltage options the Northbridge heatsink is totally overwhelmed etc. etc.

I'm not well disposed to it at the moment. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to an enthusiast user. The question is - will OcUK take it back?

Hi WJA96, It took me a few minutes to work out this board isn't the *ABIT* IP35 Pro :o

No worries Wayne - I'm sure you'll catch up quickly.

That is without doubt the most cutdown list of accessories I have even seen, what is there, a flat ribbon IDE cable, one SATA cable and one molex to SATA power adapter?

Is there a sticker! :p

Nope - no sticker.

and make sure you've checked the DRAM page is Manual but not By SPD, because sometimes after failed this page reset to "By SPD" and override your manual settings.

OK - I've been looking at this and it appears that setting anything other than the 667MHz strap in the manual timings results in unpredictable results when the FSB/DRAM ratio option is used in that it generally defaults to 1:1.5 (2:3) or possibly AUTO.

This might explain my somewhat poor CPU overclocks as the RAM has been running at over 1100MHz with only 2.0V through it (default is 2.2V).

Does anyone know when we can expect a BIOS update for this board? I looked on the website and it just says 'Coming Soon'.

I'm looking for a BIOS upgrade too, but I'd rather they did the work and got it right rather than rush into it.

Also, is anyone using 2GB OCZ PC6400 RAM with this board? Because I am, and I cant get the bored to POST in dual channel mode, so im currently running in single channel. I know the RAM isnt faulty because it was working fine in my old P5N-E SLI :(

I've updated the RAM list in post #2 of this thread, but I haven't tried the OCZ. What are you using to report the RAM status? If it's CPUz, check what version you are using - 1.42 and 1.43 are working fine for me.

Have you tried any more overclocking with a higher multipler?

What is the maximum amount of ram this board will take ?

I've got 8Gb of the G.Skill PC8000 in mine. It booted up no problems with all four slots populated at the default voltage and timings.

This board has a huge amount going for it, if I'd never read the original specification I'd have been a lot more forgiving to be honest.

Hey WJA96, still lurking around on this thread... have you had any more luck with the quad yet?

Nah - I'm stuck at 3.4GHz. I've got 4.2GHz out of the E6750 though:D It's stable enough to run SuperPi, but not Prime Stable. I can do 4GHz Prime Stable though (500x8).

It does seem much more consistent in it's response to changes with Dual-Cores than Quad-Cores. The voltages are all rock-solid though, still practically no Vdroop at all, but the Northbridge heatsink isn't really big enough for long-term running at 525FSB with 1.65V on the Northbridge and 1.40V on the CPUFSB. I've got a fan on the Northbridge to get it semi-stable at 525FSB, and naturally, I'm running proper custom water-cooling for the CPU.

I will try the older BIOS at the weekend.

By the way one thing I forgot to mention about this board in general.

In my instruction manual, the diagrams that show the layouts are different to the real layout.

The manual has schematics for more than one motherboard as it covers two P35 boards and a G/P31 board (as does the BIOS apparently). I didn't notice any major errors in the manual - but you do have to be careful what pages you're looking at.

agree, from your demand and usage, I think you have to get the Gigabyte P35-DS4 AT LEAST.

I have;

2 x Gigabyte P35-DS4
1 x Gigabyte P35-DQ6
1 x ASUS P5K-E
1 x Abit IP35-Pro
1 x Foxconn P35A
5 x Gigabyte P965-DS4
1 x Gigabyte P31-DS3L
1 x Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H
1 x EVGA 630 OC

and 1 x JW IP35-Pro

I also have a couple of X38 boards here that aren't mine, but the local computer shop has lent them to me to see if I want to buy 5 to replace my P965 boards.

I like motherboards;). I also run an SAP test suite, so I do need a lot of hardware to generate signals to fire against by test server, hence all the machines.

Im having real awful overclocking problems with this board :(

I cant get my Q6600 past 2.4 at all. Tried voltages, RAM timings, everything. It just wont budge, anybody else having the same thing?

Actually, no - I found it an absolute doddle to overclock to about 360x9 (don't adjust anything except maybe CPU voltage) and after that I've had real issues with getting any further.

I would quite literally reset the BIOS to Optimized Defaults then turn up the FSB to 300 and it should come up at 2.7GHz. Then try 333MHz and it should come up at 3GHz. After that I needed 1.35V+ on my CPU to get it stable at 350MHz.

The RAM speed settings (both FSB divider and timings) are absolutely rotten with bugs though, so just leave all that on AUTO at the moment. It may overclock your RAM a little, but it's very easy to give the RAM a smidgen extra volts to help that out.

It really does need a revised BIOS though.

will release a new BIOS asap, but as I know, this update (v1.3) involoves a complete new ROM, and is under testing during the week, if everything runs fine, it will be released next week. please be patient.

P.S. AHCI (for Vista) issue & RAM issue & the useless settings are going to be solved.

Excellent.
