*** Official OcUK Minecraft Server - Discussion and Rules ***

Guys i am trying to sort the server out
it takes longer to restart then normal so may be something else in the back end
apoligies for the issues while i try and sort it

you can update
you may need to reapply the extra mods

Some feedback for you, it would be ideal if the admins were in a position to be able to say whether you do or do not have to update extra mods, rather than may, as with all these mods now it seems quite difficult for a casual numpty like me to keep on top of things.

When I updated the tekkit client I also installed the additional mods again, even if it isn't necessary it's as simple as copy + paste so better to be safe than sorry!

may = some player had to some didnt

so we cannot say you will not have to for sure and then have you complain saying we said you did not have to.

Ok again it would seem quarries is the cause of lag again.

Quarries done over water are the main issue as water flow is killing the server
and server updates. Today i have cleared over 500K water sorce blocks in 4/5
quarries. This causes a lot of strain on the server.

Expect some rules regards quarries to come out with restrictions
as today so far i believe i have spend over 4 hours trying to fix this issue.

I have set the server to reboot it may take upto 10 min before it comes back up
whie it clears out all the chat from memory

entire server is pretty dead. I've tethered my mobile to my laptop so I'm attempting to fix this but it will be extremely slow.

Ah great FT typical it happens when you are not able to be online

I will be aking a report on the issue and what i believe is the cause
some new rules will be coming in regards the use of quarries and managing them

I'd suggest just getting rid of buildcraft. The concept of quarries seems rather foolish to me, who needs ~300k blocks for anything? The pipes are crude compared to redpower 2's. It might seem a bit drastic, but i've not really used buildcraft much myself after i found out how much better pneumatic tubes are. It does seem to have been the cause of a lot of strain directly and indirectly and rules will just mean more work to see them enforced and a lot of borderline cases. I'd say it's just not a mod that's mature enough for a proper SMP environment.

What happened to the unstable land idea I had for quarries a while back. This would eliminate the need to have them over water.
Also would solve the issue of 1.3 altho the sapphire ore blocks are basically useless history has shown people like and want new things.

Buildcraft offers a hell of lot more than just quarries just most people dont know how to use half of the features it has. Also the server is running buildcraft 2. Buildcraft 3 has a lot more bug fixes and a lot less stability issues. Buildcraft 3 smp is due to be released very very soon so expect teckit to update.

Sorry double post no idea why

should be back up now. can't really comment on anything else as the connection is too painful to use. all being well I will be back online properly tomorrow evening.

I have a quarry, not over water, underground. Logged on today to find the bottom of it flooded with water (lots of movement). No idea how one source block flooded so far and so much. Usually water doesn't travel that far?

Cleared it up. I think it's a bad idea to leave them running if not online to check on them. I thought they'd only be active if a player is nearby (chunks loaded)?

Coordinates 750, 693 seem to have 800 entities ...

Edit - Found it, cleared it up. Someone's pipes were overflowing and spewing stuff on the ground.

The mods are fantastic, I don't understand why you'd remove them because a few of us (myself included) caused the server to lag.

Maybe the quarries with RP2 pipes should be used?

Because a lagging server is not fun for the 15 other who wants to play any given afternoon. I just don't really see why we should have these problems it's causing. If you want tubes, use redpower, if you want big holes, use computercraft. computercraft will build stuff too. We might loose out on some autocrafting, granted, but most of buildcraft is really centered around getting engines to power quarries and a silly broken pipe system.

I'm also only giving the suggestion. Might be this will just get everyone to shape up and setup responsible systems and don't leave them on when they're not online if they want to continue using the mod.

It's really just a question of "is it really worth all the hassle?"

you can convert a buildcraft quarry to redpower 2 simply by putting a chest on top of it.

Then from there you can put a sorting machine and paint some pipes set the sorter to mange stacks instead of single blocks and you have a fully managed quarry easy. You can even set an overflow pipe to lava that it will use if a chest fills up.

Do quarrys turn off with a switch? attach a sensor to the flow pipe that emits a signal when it detects flow attach the other end to the quarry, no flow will shut down the quarry.
