Is it going to be a case of requiring a new world for use with 1.8? We did that before, didn't we? Whatever happened to the Titanic build?

Well there is a split between those that do want a new world and those that don't. I do, with all the new features I think it will be worth it. The unstable land alone as 1.8 just won't be much fun. I think perhaps there should be a vote, with the people who've contributed money to the server having more of a say than those that haven't.Is it going to be a case of requiring a new world for use with 1.8? I personally think it makes sense to get a new map due to the massive landscape changes that are going to be implemented.
I'm sure there won't be any other updates on this scale before the release so this might well be the last map change.
well release is 11th November, so if it was a completely new map it would only be for 2 months.
Also if this multiworlds plug-in thing French has been working on works out there will be a full 1.8 world just though a little portal in spawn so we can have a full 1.8 map and the current map.
Because that isn't completely unfair considering not all of us have money to give.
Please, if that is your opinion on how the server should work, then please think again but use your brain this time, as it isn't a sign about caring about the server more, but about how much money you have available and whether you can spare that money to give it to french's server budget or wherever it goes.
Don't be so silly! That's my opinion and I don't have to change it becuase you don't agree. Your opinion in your comment about why people contribute (all about how much money people have available), to me is nonsense but that's your opinion so fair enough. I didn't suggest that only the contributors should have the decision on what happens so don't read it that way. I haven't contributed to the server although I'd like to, but I do believe those that have contributed should *perhaps* have a slightly louder voice in the matter. If that doesn't happen then I'm not worried.
I personally think we should wipe the map, keep spawn & the mob arena (presuming the mod works with 1.8) but everything else should go. ALL players should lose their chests and inventory (with the execption of allowing donators to keep their sponges).
To me it will make for a much more even playing field, will bring the server together in building mega builds outside of spawn again and is the fairest way.
I don't agree with 2 maps as it will split the server.. I know me for 1 would go straight to 1.8 map and not look back but I'd be willing to bet there'd be ppl who wouldn't want to leave their builds or would destroy them and carry the resources over to the new map.
At the end of the day it's FTs decision and FTs alone, I only hope that our voices are at least given some weight.

It's impossible to say what additions they'll add before it goes to retail, or even after that. Doing a map wipe @ 1.8 might mean we're in the same situation at least twice more.
What I personally would like to see (and I hope I'm allowed to have an opinion without someone coming along and telling me I can't and to use my brain) is that we have a 1.8 map wipe, 1.9 map wipe, etc. So long as we get to move the pantheon across full of chests with our precious lootz in them
An alternative, and probably more popular idea is to have a fresh 1.8 world and then have the admins (and by that I mean mostly FT) support and maintain a multiverse type plugin that contains this current world as an 'addon' world that you can travel to.
That way when someone new joins the server they're instantly in the new fancy 1.8 world, and people who want to continue their 'epic builds' can just go through a portal to it.

Being a contributer myself I hope that your idea never happens this will alienate people and that is not what contributing is about. RoboSprog said it right not everyone has money to give. Some people who have never contributed yet are great members of the community they should not lose out or have any less rights.
The community as a whole has a right to voice there opionion but ultimatly it is the admins choice and that is the way it should be.
Love this idea myself.
