Agree with FT - it was always said it was a Test server, if anyone has said differently or hinted take it up with them but I've always seen it as a temporary playground for testing the client.
 
ive spent several hours doing my build on the test server and you go and wipe it again?
literately id just sorted mass fabs and had nearly finished my frickin build, do you have the files of the old map so i can get my mercilium island and build and everything back as i had done lots of work since the build move and was slowly settling thinking there wouldn’t be another map wipe! especially without warning! i know its a ”test server” and all but that took alllllot of work!
is there any backup files you have before the most recent wipe of the test server (were looking at about 14 hours of work on my build)

So you put all that work in, fully knowing it was a test server. Then come on the forums and moan because it's going to get wiped??? Am I reading your post wrong or ???
 
Guys just to clear some things up.

I personaly took a backup of the test server map.
So yes i will be grabing new copies of all the builds on that map and putting them
into the live server. So you dont have to worry about loss of anything.

The current live map i will also have a copy of in order to work on completing the build moves. I hope to get most of them done this friday/Saturday when the server goes live.
 
Is the new map going to be filled in? So biomes are per-spawns?
If not we'll end up with horrible biomes on top of each other as MC is updated.

Is the new map generated using 1.2.5 or 1.3?

Will the new client still be on 1.2.5 or up to 1.3?

Nobody that I know actually knows what the final situation will be or even has a vague idea. One of the reasons I and several others haven't played on Linktart for weeks is because we were moving map, had builds copied and therefor weren't going to be recopied onto the new map and the only alternative was mucking about on a test map. Now we're told some will be recopied and the test map builds can be transfered too?

Not a rant, just making an observation - next time we do a map change can someone take charge of keeping players informed and ensuring the admin team all know exactly what the situation is so we dont' get mixed messages?

The plan was to pre-generate but Mystcraft doesn't work with this so we can't do that.

Yrthilian was trying to be helpful to offer to copy builds across but I had no plans to do so and no idea things were being backed up. If it means less loss of work for players then it's good by me.

Agreed /re mixed messages. To be honest I'm pretty tired of running things and have pretty much left it up to the others this time round. Clearly lessons to be learned.

We're still on 1.2.5 because some mods haven't been updated yet.

I have to agree with Half on this one.
The reason I've been staying clear of the test server was because it wass a test server and we were told everything we done would be lost now we're finding out if you were lucky enough to have your build moved for "testing" it'll now be copied across?
Also FT has stated it was corrupt so do you risk bringing something corrupt across to the new map?

It'd also be good to know for sure what client\map gen version the new server will be as a lot of nice touches have been brought in since 1.2.5 and it'd be a waste going through all this to find out we're still using the old version.

Just my 2 cents.

Edit: typed up when FT posted so hadn't read his post. It's ashame that we're being held back on the game verson due to certain mods

Sorry guys the mixup is totaly my fault.
Been working hard on server stuff and trying to ballance new baby comming in 8 weeks

Originaly no builds where to be copied from test server but some have done a LOT of work on helping us fix issues and test thoes that well i wanted to reward them with copying their updated builds.

There was a LOT of things done to get this newer server updated and fix a lot of issues that made game breaking bugs happen. I am not trying to make excuses just i had not focused on making sure you guys where updated.

That is a lession learned and i will make better updates and keep you better informed.
I am currently working on the log of changes for you all to loook at and the rules that need to be put in place. for some of the more minor stuff.

Yes the map is still on 1.2.5 reasion for this is RP 2 and CRaftBukkit MCPC are not on 1.3.2 I was hopeing they would have updated at the weekend but both are still not done.

To be honest with you guys i am a techie and the backend stuff i can do very well
my customer focuse is not great and am sorry for leaving you guys in the dark.

So going forward here is my promise to you all.
I will make sure to update regulary what is being done when we hope to have it done by. In fact i am going toadd to the FT forum a status update section so if we make changes you will know of it.

There are some other front end things i want to look at
but want to run thoes ideas by FT first before going ahead with them.

For MAC players i had to go and get a new PC my one blew
So i am also hopeing that if the Virtual system works that i can work on a client for
you guys too and take away the pita it is to make one from you guys.

Yo yrt, as far as I can see nothing is ported to bukkit unless you guys are planning on using the vanilla server.

I have a feeling eloraam is waiting for 1.4 which should be out later this month.

The existing live map already shots a fair bit of this if you explore. Looks terrible.

Got to admit I don't really see the point in moving to a new map whilst still on 1.2.5, wouldn't it make more sense to stay as we are and move to a new 1.3 map or even 1.3.x once mods have caught up?

With mystcraft this is not n issues.
Currently we are limiting the size of the live world i think it is 500 chunks radius
myself and punky will do a run around to pre render the map when it does go live. We understand the concern of the fugly chunks.

The map may get a review at that stage but we will discuss it with all players first before doing anything.

the mods dont need porting in them selfs and half the
ones listed on the 1.2.5 are also 1.3.2.

To be more clear
Mod are not the same as plugins
mods we use are already 1.3.2
plugins we use are all ready ported for 1.3.2 just waiting on offical craftbukkit MCPC for 1.3.2

The point is that we have issues with the current map causing problems. This is half the point of all the testing and updating work we've done.

As yrth has already posted we will be using many smaller Mystcraft worlds to mitigate the change in terrain generation code issues. Just waiting and generating one big new map will only put off the problem until next time there are changes - using additional worlds allows us to deal with it in future every time this happens.
 
having watched direwolf's server play i can tell you this isnt the case. 1.3 broke a lot of stuff for eloraam and she's hard at work fixing it

oh i know that i seen the vids too :D
also we can almost drop RP with some of the stuff BC3 does
So if we have to and she is too slow then we drop RP

Good news that is, I thought she was giving it a rest until 1.4. I'd watch direwolf but his voice puts me in the mind of Bert, or Earnie - cant' remember which.

Yth - I can see the majority of mods are ready for 1.3.2 for the vanilla server, but the last I knew they still need ported to work with bukkit, or have they changed in a new build?

I.e. if you grab Redpower pr5 for 1.2.5 from eloraam's site and drop it into your /mods/ folder it won't run, you instead need to grab Maeyanie's version from MCPC's website, the ported version of the original mod.

If this has changed, fantastic news!
