*** Official OcUK Minecraft Server - Discussion and Rules ***

TBH, if children were banned from playing on the server, then I'd probably stop playing altogether (Might even have to if its 0-13 classed as children) because it's discrimination and stereotyping. The attitude and actions of the player decide the player, not their age.

I hope that nobody even considers seriously banning children from playing on the server, I mean, we barely get children on the server and as far as I usually know they don't grief, and sure, they ask questions but so do adults and teenagers new to minecraft. They might pester - but didn't freddie pretty much stalk Zumii (that was hilarious btw) for a while? He wasn't banned to my knowledge, nor was his age group.

Come on guys, don't be hatin'.

I agree children should not be banned due to age but I think the reason this subject has come up is due to one person on the server.

This person has griefed on at least 2 occasions that I know off.

3 people wont even talk (including myself) when this person is online due to knowing what follows (constant questions and pestering this person is relentless). Also many people have said in chat they are sick of it and a couple have even said considering quitting mc because of it.

Fair enough asking questions but asking the same questions over and over and over again gets very annoying and being followed around constantly like they are a lost puppy. People do not play minecraft to be babysitters yet a few people feel like this when the person is online.

But like I said agree with not banning children in general but bans should be dealt individually.

Ignoring post above me:

A singular case out of the many children and teenagers that have played on this server is not warranty enough to ban an entire age group or even start a discussion over it. It's fear mongering and in my opinion, quite pathetic. It's like when people call muslims terrorists because of one muslim extremist group, however not nearly as sad and horrible. If the person is banned then that's all that needs to be done, it is not reason enough to ban the entire age group.

I hope that wasn't a wall of text O.o
Edit: Nope :D

Sorry that doesn't wash with me.

It has been more than one child that we have had trouble with in the past.

I'm not calling out for a ban either but I think a probation period should be enforced in case they they start causing problems or annoying.

I ran a Wow guild for a while and we let in youngsters at first but had all manor of problems, same thing not shutting up and annoying other guild members; so we did a cull and kept the ones which were okay. I made it a much better guild for it.

The fact of the matter is a lot of kids can't help but be annoying; you can tell them a hundred times that their behaviour in unacceptable and they will still not listen.

EDIT: Oh I love how you twisted the religious intolerance there, you should be a politician!

Yeah man it's exactly what Nutty said, I wasn't suggesting we actually ban children. You certainly don't have the attitude of the person we're both referring too; you are as adult as many of the players online. Myself included no doubt!

That kid is unbelievable tho.

I hate to say it but I think there's a need for more admins or a go between with slightly less powers but enough to help out etc. Maxi never seems to have a quiet minute when online :) It might also help with the problem some of the players are having with this mysterious youngster nobody apparently wants to name.

Age will never be used as a measure of maturity whilst the server is running on my hardware. However, I'm tempted to add a plugin that would allow players to /ignore other players so we can avoid this sort of situation in future.

edit: People being creepy is completely different to someone being young/immature. Generally in cases where I've become aware of this behaviour I have contacted the people on the receiving end to ask as to whether or not they have found it problematic. I haven't had the chance to contact Jessishere but if she has an issue with anything she is more than welcome to contact me or another admin.

I've asked the other admins about this and at the moment we will probably be sticking with things as they are. The situation is still under discussion, however.

OK we all know that trading on the server is quite hit and miss, everyone will have their own particular value for resources and of course you feel it's more valuable if you need it to finish a build, but I was hoping we'd be able to iron out a guide. As such here's my own personal valuation of blocks, as I list them by how hard I find them to get.

In brackets is what I value the block at in terms of 1 gold ingot. i.e. diamond is 5x more valuable. Some resources just aren't valuable enough to trade for gold though i.e. sand, unless in huge quantities.

Personally I value moss stone highly - partly as I have difficulty finding it and it can't be made at the moment, likewise I've only ever found one pumpkin in game! Diamond arguably is about equal with moss stone, but then again you can do most of the things with iron and stone tools.. so unless you want the bling it's not that important.

Sponge (40)
Pumpkin (20)
Moss Stone (8)
Diamond (5)
Gold (1)
Clay (1/8)
Glow dust (1/8)
Iron (1/10)
coal (1/15)
Stone (1/32)
Sandstone (1/32)
Sand
Wool
Leaves
Wood
Gravel
Cobblestone
Earth

Edit: For discussion - feel free to share your valuations!
