*** Official OcUK Minecraft Server - Discussion and Rules ***

OK we all know that trading on the server is quite hit and miss, everyone will have their own particular value for resources and of course you feel it's more valuable if you need it to finish a build, but I was hoping we'd be able to iron out a guide. As such here's my own personal valuation of blocks, as I list them by how hard I find them to get.

In brackets is what I value the block at in terms of 1 gold ingot. i.e. diamond is 5x more valuable. Some resources just aren't valuable enough to trade for gold though i.e. sand, unless in huge quantities.

Personally I value moss stone highly - partly as I have difficulty finding it and it can't be made at the moment, likewise I've only ever found one pumpkin in game! Diamond arguably is about equal with moss stone, but then again you can do most of the things with iron and stone tools.. so unless you want the bling it's not that important.

Sponge (40)
Pumpkin (20)
Moss Stone (8)
Diamond (5)
Gold (1)
Clay (1/8)
Glow dust (1/8)
Iron (1/10)
coal (1/15)
Stone (1/32)
Sandstone (1/32)
Sand
Wool
Leaves
Wood
Gravel
Cobblestone
Earth

Edit: For discussion - feel free to share your valuations!

Interesting, but do we really need to make it official? I think most of us value different things differently at different times and as such would rather negotiate...

I think coal/charcoal and logs should be quite high. I have tons of everything apart from these - mainly because they're used so often and are boring to obtain.

Think a Trading counter would be great if there is someone that needs something & you need someting in return. I must say that a lot of our players on the server are very helpfull, & if they got stuff they realli dont need, they do donate, I have received & given items in this way as well as traded.

I havnt come across anyone yet that has asked for to much in return for something I have wanted, but then you haggle.

What I think might be a good think is the donation chests, maybe have a set limit on what you get in return for a donation, but request certain items that we would need.

As to the children / age restriction on the server, most of us dont know anyones age unless we ask, so i guess its more about how that person in game is acting. I again have asked many questions whist in game, to learn & find my fellow miners helpfull, If I felt someone was being a pain in the backside then surely the easiest way is to be able to PM an admin & ask them to have a word, a screen shot would be a good help in these matters, if the person cares on then admin ban em.

Must say really enjoying my time on this server & have been made to feel welcome. Thx.

I'm gonna put a trading post up at spawn, probably in this format:-

Player:
Trading:
For:
Player:
Offering:
Deal:

If a player agrees to an offer, they can then accept the deal, create a private chest between them and the other player then they can do the trade without having to both be online at once. I know I'm gonna be using it a hell of a lot :)

(sorry for the double post)

Sorry that doesn't wash with me.

It has been more than one child that we have had trouble with in the past.

I'm not calling out for a ban either but I think a probation period should be enforced in case they they start causing problems or annoying.

I ran a Wow guild for a while and we let in youngsters at first but had all manor of problems, same thing not shutting up and annoying other guild members; so we did a cull and kept the ones which were okay. I made it a much better guild for it.

The fact of the matter is a lot of kids can't help but be annoying; you can tell them a hundred times that their behaviour in unacceptable and they will still not listen.

EDIT: Oh I love how you twisted the religious intolerance there, you should be a politician!

Thanks! Though I think I'd be a terrible politican :P.

I've been on the server a few months and I can't remember any incidents where children have been too.. annoying, for lack of a better word, par this one.
And a probation would just be silly and a waste of time. People can act completely different when under threat of a ban or not being able to access the server.

And applying WoW to minecraft is silly as they are completely different games that attract different people. Everyone asks questions in minecraft, regardless of age - it just depends on their age their level of vocabulary in which to use to ask these questions that might become annoying.

And we are in an isolated enviroment with the whitelist and application process, we also have 2 relatively active admins to enforce the server. If children cause too much of a problem they can be asked to stop, and if they don't, further punishment can be taken. However, any sort of probation or ban would actually give us the chance of losing potential great members to the community.

I mean, I've been on the server since the old map and before frenchtart took over and I haven't caused a single problem, and haven't been banned (par when sylvet messed up accidentally but that was removed straight after) unlike many older members of the community who do. And people around my age, I believe willhub stated to be 13, and freddie is 15 or so? Haven't been banned as far as I know (Though fred manages to annoy a few people.. but freds special, and not in the good way ^.^ (am i still top of the evil list fred?))

It wouldn't benefit the server really, and should not be considered really, unless only children are causing the problems - which isn't happening. It's a few cases spread out really far between, and singular when they happen.

Like I've already said, age isn't a good measure of maturity. No rules are going to be introduced to add additional rules/probation requirements for anyone under a certain age. People are all given a chance to prove themselves - if they mess that up we take action.

@Maxi - I'll look at Bukkit/etc this week as work should be less busy.

Good Good :D

I've got internet back at work and I'm already busy making some long overdue cartos! Does anyone know of any good upload websites bar anyhub as that seems really slow for me at the moment. I'm looking for somewhere where I haven't got to sign up etc, or if anyone has some nice webspace I can dump 500 or so mb I'd be more than happy to use it ;)

I agree with FT maturity isn't measured by age as we have seen in the pass even you old grumpy gits can cause some issues ;) The player who you have had issues with has been warned about his behavior a week or so ago and as it continued has been given a 3 day suspension. He will be on his final warning after the suspension.
