Is minecraft having a few problems at the minute? I cant connect to any of the linktart servers, and even my own small FTB server, which is showing as up and running on the kerplunc site, seems to be down as well..

I just managed to get on the reddit server fine.
But the LT servers are down because FT is moving it to a new box. No idea when they will be back up. The test mod server is up though.
And just because even I found it hard to find details of all these servers.... and all the posts asking for IP's and version numbers... for reference...

Just to let everyone know the 1.4.6 test server is up, not sure about the 1.4.5 at the moment due to the dedi soon to be changing.
If the test server is stable then it will become the main server very very soon Everything has been transferred over and from everything I can see it is running fine! But please let us know if you spot anything.

so, I dont know much about these modified servers, I only used the tekkit one once and never liked it, what is this Mod+ one going to be like?

Unfortunately if you didn't like tekkit your not going to like the new Mod+ server but if you don't want to use any of the new machines you don't have too and can play vanilla albeit there are a lot of ores that you won't need, there are a few little additions to anyone that wants to play sort of vanilla with a few extras use nei (search bar at the bottom) and look at the furnaces
. Also xycraft (those colored light emitting ores) has been added and make for some great looking building blocks

Since no one has said anything officially, I'm going to make the following assumptions, so anyone feel free to jump in and correct me
The 1.4.5 vanilla server that was on linktart.co.uk:55565 is now gone. It is now moved to linktart.co.uk and upgraded to 1.4.6.
The mod+ server that was on linktart.co.uk is now down and not moved to any other address until further notice.
The vanilla test server that used to be rootserv.co.uk is no more, and we can ignore any server with 'rootserv.co.uk' in the address (for sake of clarity, even though it resolves to the same IP).
^As such, the Mod+ test server that used to be on rootserv.co.uk:45565 can now be found at linktart.co.uk:45565 - and is up.

I'm not really up on what is happening myself so I can't comment. However, yeah, the old dedi is gone for the most part and anything that is being moved has been moved. linktart.co.uk should now point to the new dedi (as does rootserv.co.uk)

I'll try pop onto the vanilla server a little later if I can. Currently slammed with work and what have you but I should take an hour or two for myself .

Some admin stuff is still in alpha and not yet completed but we felt we wanted to let players play on the mod+ server with all the new stuff from 1.4.6

Yep we haven't had any major issues on the version we have tested as best we can over the last couple of months (yes months). So we will be trying our best to keep the world on the 1.4.6 MOD + server (our private test server is already on 1.4.7 :S) if any mod update adds new ores or world gen then we will accommodate this in a mystcraft world (this also works 100 times better then the 1.2.5 version).
The reason for the extra whitelisting is simply because as yrth said we have no rollback command also there is no TP command currently (to get around this use mystcraft linking books if anyone wants to make one give me a shout and I will enable same world linking for you) again this is because the plugins for this are in development but we are updating (yes this is a pita) but each update should be more stable and add more features, we will only inconvience you once we are happy the update doesn't break anything (possibly once every two weeks currently and then less once everything calms down)
We will try and get a modlist together before the weekend and post it on the linktart forum.
Here is a rough list of what has been added from the major mods -
everything you had on the 1.2.5 minus the ic2 - buildcraft crossover mod (we felt that with what we have added this was redundant)

Portal Gun (moon shots are off before you get any ideas)

Gregtech (yes your matter fabricators and quarries are much harder to get)

Again we have tested as best we can by simply playing the game but if anybody comes across a problem or error please let me know and i will try and compile a short list of can's and cant's.

As some one will ask anyway, if it can be fixed, would it be possible to move an area over or the contents of chests (diamonds, UU blobs). I'd just got myself sorted and I don't really want to have to start all over again (again)

I downloaded the client from the Dropbox thing, but the instructions on linktart make no sense to me at all, I can see some words relate to some things but they don't match what you appear to be saying
