** Official OcUK RIFT Guild **

Probably the wrong thread, but what's the grind like in this game?

What game is it most like?

What's the pvp like?

I should read up on it but after swearing blind I'd never play another mmo I've avoided every bit of info about this and other new mmo's!

Well, tough to talk about grind as its a very personal thing, I havent felt a grind in Rift at all, but then I am not a very grindy player and I dont really do things that grind.

What game is it like, I am kind of tempted to say all of them :D , sounds silly but whilst playing I have felt at different times that its most like WoW, then at other times most like WAR, then at other times most like Aion, then at other times most like EQ2. I think overall it feels like all manner of other titles mixed into one, a little like WoW did originally.

The PvP is quite similar to the PvP in WoW (minus the arenas), so far on the server I have been on its been quick to get into and quite a bit of fun. I wouldnt sit for hours on end doing it, but for a quick blast in between playing other aspects of the game its sufficient. It does need more emphasis on bringing out the open world PvP rather than the instanced, but that will hopefully come with time. I cant particularly comment on balance, as individual classes should never be balanced against all other classes, it should require a team effort. Daoc is widely regarded as one, if not the, definitive faction v faction based PvP MMO and the classes in that werent balanced on a 1 to 1 basis.

Its early days yet, there is still content to come, classes will be tweaked, players will form better and more cohesive teamwork. At the moment I'm happy and having plenty of fun.

Been playing a little more on my guild character (Bruude) now I have eventually found a rogue spec I enjoy. Was hating rogue found bard healing irritating, sabo very unfriendly to solo questing and the survivability of melée specs tended to annoy me.

Eventually got round to trying marksmen/ranger combo and it's quite enjoyable. Can solo quests with the pet, damage output is good and survivability is there if you play well. You get mauled horribly if you get caught in melée but have plenty of skills and snares and speed buffs which if used correctly can be fun and interesting to play.

Level 20 now so Will spend a little more time on him rather than just my guardian cleric :)

Hmm, I rolled a mark/ranger and hated it, just couldn't take to it at all. Was liking mage until I saw a bard video, so made a bard out of curiosity and now that bard is level 19, bard/riftstalker/nightblade. Epic in melee, also the medium range, and good survival of the healing/damage and massive buffs the bard gives out. Love my rogue to bits, here is a pic of him standing near Stonefield.

First update is due soon, and also end of the free month.

Im very undecided about subbing to this. It was a clean launch but the game has so many issues when you begin to dig deeper. Hopefully a lot is resolved soon.

I did play a bit of the beta but performance on my system was pretty dire. Can anyone give me a rough idea of what to expect performance wise on a 5850 1gb/phenom ii x4 (3.4ghz)/4gb ram @ 1900x1200?

If it will be playable in pvp etc I'll pick up a copy today.

I'm using a 5850, but also an i7 2.7gz(stock), 6GB and most settings are high, an some trivial ones not.

Its play brilliantly and looks better then most, if not all mmo's out there that I've played.

Cut a long story short, the game will work perfectly fine and look pretty darn good(unless your system is shagged).

Minimum specs are well below your spec, just an importent note.

I'll be subbing, they have done enough so far to earn my subscription reward. I shall reward what they have done so far by paying them for another month. I'm very interested to see how they move on from this start.
