*Official OMG I RMA'd my 460 Thread*

noise. it would get up to 93 degrees under 3dmark vantage when clcoked and slight over volt. and then the fan would upset me. and it didnt play company of heroes flawlessly in all ultra at 1080p.. so i thought, well i might as well get a 460 gtx then?!

and that didnt turn out great noise wise either.

As I was saying to Overslop (great name ^^) the noise of the 470 put me off buying the Zotac, even though it's at a great price (£235 currently).

Still got my eye on one of those Gigabyte 1Gb OC 460's.

With your long distance selling regs, technically you are only supposed to 'test' the product in the same way that you could in a store.

So not putting inside your machine, only taking it out of the box to look at.

That's not true. The regs don't say that, and I've returned computer hardware that I've used from several different vendors, and none have ever asked how its been used. In any case, usually they don't ask why you're returning it.

My pair of Gainward GLH go back tomorrow, pre-ordered the Gigabyte 1GB OC instead, hopefully be here this week, been getting good feedback from users over the pond with regards to noise, temps and overclocking.

A vendor can reject the request to return if its known to have been used rather than inspected [beyond necessary use required to complete inspection which can vary depending on the type of product]. As you say, staff working in various firms are not going to ask these questions making it moot.

It doesnt say that anywhere in the regs.
It doesnt have to say it in the long distance selling regs for you to need to be in breach other traditional forms of sale contract law.

Don't think I could live with the noise in the long run, even watching youtube videos caused variations in the fan speed which was annoying, like if you don't want the sound on, or at low volume. I want a higher quality cooling solution that is quieter for £200.

Have got the gainward gs packaged ready to be collected by dhl today, I used parcel2go to make the collection - £8.21, same as what the city link charge was - which i was refunded by competitor because of the 4 day delay in delivery so that helped pay to return it, managed to pay just on 11:59am before the midday cut off for same day pay and collect!

I contacted the competitor to notify them, and if they want me to put an return number on it before it gets collected although all the docs are with it anyway and written on the outside of the parcel.

Problem with the 460 is that it is a rectangular GPU, so the mounting holes don't match any of the 3rd party coolers. :(

Maybe the core is rectangular but from a couple of reviews i saw where they took the coolers off, the mounting holes look square to me so other coolers may fit.

Maybe someone could measure the distance between the mounting holes on their card?

I would but its all sealed now sorry, they would have to bring out different full length coolers as the gainward and palit pcb for example are shorter in length than the other cards like reference and maybe cards like msi or giga altho i think the cooling should be good enough on those. Depends on the length of the cooler I suppose they could have a universal one still.

My Palit was sent back to the supplier a few days ago, and they accepted the return, and will refund my money.

Only cost just over £6.00 to send special delivery too, with full insurance, so I've not taken too much of a hit.

ah nice, you went to post office did you... hmm lazy here, thought I'd just get it picked up by a courier through parcel2go, well there is a cheaper Home DN courier option of between 1-3 days for about £7, but I went for the DHL at £8.21 as I could order for same day collection before midday. And tomorrow will be the 7th day from purchase date, which I gather is the cutoff notifcation period (or, after the 7th day?) under DSR regulations, after which I think the store can refuse the return/refund. In my case I did get it 4 days late though instead of next day, not sure if that would result in a special circumstance or not - probably not in their eyes!

edit: I was given a couple of free gifts with my order but I have just had an RMA email and they list those items too, but as they were free I shouldn't have to send those back too?

edit 2: have put the free gifts back in with the card, just in case they refuse my refund, as they were free based on a purchased order, and since the graphics card was the only thing, it means I haven't purchased anything getting a refund, so best to send back eh :) glad DHL didnt turn up before or during that lol

You don't have to send it back within 7 days, just notify the company within 7 days that you're returning it - and that 7 day period begins the day after you take delivery of the goods. Once you've notified the company you have to send the items back within a reasonable period. The supplier I used said to return within 28 days.

ah right thanks, cleared that up, yes I just checked, I knew it was a 7 day notification period (and 28 days to return) but I thought it was 7 working days from payment/order made, not starting from delivery made.

7 working days. The 1st day is the day after you have signed for it.

28 days is also an reasonable period of time now not stictly 28 after sale
