*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

Beta starts tonight at 9pm British time, I think? If you want instant access into the game and you're unsure of how quickly you'll get into the Beta... then subscribe to the game. Smedley says that up until 9pm British time, you can subscribe to the game and get early access into the game as a "veteran/active sub". Anything past 9pm doesn't count...

So I assume that's when the Beta information/invites will be released. Hopefully I get selected! :D

I doubt you'll get given a `key` but you'll be sent an email with access details to grab the client etc.

Your account will be flagged to allow access.

Smedley has said he hopes within 2-4 weeks to have everyone in the Beta. (But only if things go smoothly, which we all known doesn't happen)

Where did you read that? on the reddit AMA he said there was a cut off date for that since the 3rd/4th of August - meaning if you subscribed now you wouldn't get in.

8am Monday (today) is the cut off date, whether that is UK or PST time I'm not sure. I subbed last night just to make sure and I can't wait for the beta tonight :)

Ahh right, nice one - i'll have to let some peeps know :)

edit: that has to be an American time zone - which I don't know, so the cut off could be in an hour or two?

Yeh you would want to get subbed within the hour I reckon.

Cut off for the subscription thing would be 4pm UK time I believe, SOE is in San Diego I think so 8 hours behind on PST. This of course assumes Smedley was correct in the first place.

Yup. That makes sense. So basically do all PS subscribers prior to the cut off get access to PS2 BETA?

That's the idea, yeah. If you're subbed to PS1 before the cut off, you should be in the first batch of people to get invited to the Beta. I'd guess a lot of people have the idea to sub to PS1 though, to get access... so things might change, dependant on how many people sub up to PS1. Who knows!

I've got my SOE account which I used to play PS on. But I'm not a current sub.

Bit miffed. Went to sub there and SOE don't take bloody paypal. Of all the days to forget my bloody wallet for my card details. argh.

i already had a priority key months back so im assuming i dont need anything else?

Priority is Current Subscribers -> Veterans (I.e. played PS1 but not currently subbed) -> Key holders -> everyone else who signed up.

Unless you're currently subbed I doubt you'll be in today but I think they said most key holders should be in within 2-3 weeks.

More than likely, if you're a vet then, you'll get into the Beta in a week or twos time. Depends on how many current subscribers there are, I guess! We can only assume people are getting the same idea and subbing to the game to simply get access.

Hi all, I got this email about 12 days ago, does this mean I'm in the beta? I've only just noticed it:

You have been selected to participate in the Technical Testing phase of Sony Online Entertainment’s upcoming game PlanetSide 2. This phase includes testing our server bandwidth and performance and will allow us to further optimize the game in preparation for External Beta. We appreciate your help in this critical first step of the testing process as it helps us to ensure a solid foundation for our Beta program.

GAME AVAILABILITY:
Please be sure to check the forums regularly for information on testing availability and other important information. Currently, this is a closed Technical Test, so please check the forums for times, information and updates. At times, we will restrict certain areas and features to conduct specific testing. As this phase progresses, more content and features will become available to you.
FORUMS:
With your acceptance into the PlanetSide 2 Technical Test, you will have access to testing forums, which are located here: http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/forums/list.m

CONFIDENTIALITY:
In order to participate in the Technical Testing phase, you will be required to accept our Game Testing Agreement which, among other things, states that everything associated with the Beta program (including this Technical Testing phase) is considered confidential information, and you may not discuss it with anyone except SOE and other players through the official PlanetSide 2 testing forums until SOE lifts the confidentiality obligations or the game has been commercially released.
We look forward to seeing you in the game and hearing your feedback!
For any help or assistance with your account or installation, please go to http://help.PlanetSide2.com

That email means you can login and play whenever the server is online for the tech test, it also means you are already in the beta test so once you have the client you are good to go. Grats! :)
