*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

I have played the game for a few minutes and I still have not determined what the hell is going on.

I just ran around for 30 minutes. It was very boring...

I suppose I would have to join a clan to find out what the hell is going on?

The map also seemed very baron, just desert, so limited combat as a soldier. No walls or forests to move through.

Seemed like a game from 2001 to me.

Check the map frequently - try and find where the battles are happening. You will eventually come across a zerg of some descript; stick with them. But yes joining an outfit will clarify things much more quickly and give you much more enjoyment from the game, even playing in a small group of 4-5 people is a hell of a lot more enjoyable and you can be much more effective then just stomping around solo.

there are two options to get into battle quickly if there is not a galaxy on the pad - the quick action button or jump into a mosquito and fly to an action point on the map. When youre shot down (inevitably) near the action you can spawn at local spawn points.

I have 50 cert points, what should i spend it on? I am a heavy assault class mainly. Should i keep or upgrade the t9 carv gun?

My fave class. 50 certs is not a lot, but you can upgarde your armor 2 steps - which doesnt make a whole lot of difference, but is something you should be doing anyway, or grab something like C4. Personally, if youre sticking with the T9 you should be spending it on that, extended magazine is a must. i would save up for a chain gun myself. The damn things are annoying in that unlike EVERY OTHER GUN they have a second long 'spin up' before they actually fire. You dont want to be taken by surprise basically. But its a real death dealer. Simnply have a read through all the certs and see what grabs you the most.

I am spending my certs on tanks :D Lots & lots of tanks!

I feel that when I get a new graphics card I will be more involved with infantry combat but while I am running around 30fps it is best to sit back, and bombard, good way to rack up some kills & get some cert points.

It's pay to win.

Enjoy. :)

Hmm sarcasm much? Lets see, its free to download and to connect to their servers like the thousands a day already doing so, but in order for them to make some money (yes, a shockng betrayal of the gaming community) they will make it possible to buy weapons and skins, some of which are quite effective. You can, should the determination not to reward them in any way for making an enjoyable game persist, refuse to pay anything and eventually get those weapons anyway, however this will require some effort on your part and yes, you may not be as effective as the people who already have the upgraded weaponry in the intervening period. This will be most noticeable for tanks and aircraft.

Just had a quick blast for an hour, the new update is really making the game run a lot smoother for me, infantry combat seemed a lot quicker, had some great fun with a TR push, then out of nowhere the NC responded and beat us back.

Unfortunatley there didn't seem to be too much organisation on our part and that is probably what just cost us.

The Snow Continent (Esamir?) Will be all NC before long :( A dark day for the TR.

It isn't pay to win. If you're a free player, you can get everything that a paying player can.

Also, quick tip for anyone with a relatively high spec like mine, change texture quality to 0 in the config file as it seems to give a lot of people with good cards better frame rate than 'high. It seems to offload more onto the GPU when you enable ultra textures and gives better frame rate.

Sugar coat any way you want, it is pay to win. Goal posts will be moved so that new perks are always available instantly for those that pay. Sure non-payers can eventually get the same, but by then other perks will be available. That's how they'll make their money and they're not hiding that.

I'm not the person struggling to understand the business model behind PS2, get over yourself. It is what it is, I haven't said that it's a bad thing but don't make it out not to have the "pay to win element"it clearly does.

Honestly it's not pay to win from what I've seen.

The only thing you may want to pay for is the guns since their cert cost is so high, but the couple I've tried are not massively better than the standard ones. Most people stick to one or two classes so its not too taxing to get an upgrade.

Some of the vehicle ones such as rocket pods so seem pretty good tho.

The other soldier and vehicle buff skills are only available via certs which is pure game time and skill.

It's just terminology, items are made available that can be fast tracked by paying for them. People do this so they improve their chances of winning. I actually quite like the concept as I have very little time to play, so being able to access items that would otherwise take many hours of game time is something I'd be tempted by. Sadly though I'm not a big fan of the PS2 game play, plus it runs like a dog on my ancient system.

I think the pay to win terminology just puts the wrong idea into people's heads. If you could unlock super powerful guns only by paying or by being a major no-lifer then I'd 100% agree.

I'd say something like APB falls into that category and dota2 is the total opposite. PS2 is sort of middle ground where the unlocks only give you more tactical options rather than making you much more powerful.
