*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

I've a bad feeling that PS2 is going to make my i5@4ghz+5850 cry for mercy during poplocks considering PS1 can take it down to around 45-50fps at times.

Nah, hopefully they have a decent engine this time round. Don't forget PS is still running in DX8.

The pop locks, although awesome is starting to **** me off. Bad lag and major hit detection problems. Takes me around 50 bullets to kill an agile with an MCG, and that's if I don't get 2 shotted by a JH or gibbed by Lasher before!

Considering PS1/2 are all about large groups of players fighting it out, the 10-20 players we've seen in videos so far don't fill me with confidence tbh.

We'll see though.

Tbh I get bad lag & hit detection even without poplocks, so I've just put it down to the pings and the server being stateside.

Now and again you can get a decent fight away from the zerg, but generally if you attempt to hack a continent you get kicked off it pronto with 5-1 odds.

And if you don't it normally doesn't remain a small fight as you get people from the zerg moving over because they're bored, causing another mini-zerg...

Joy.

I have to say.... I generally gave up on upgrading my system for any one game.... but this... on man. As long as the playability is up there with PS, then I'll probably do the ol' upgrade thing, depending on when it comes out.

There are a couple more images on planetside universe forum, from a (I think) developers blog.

Very much hoping to be part of the beta program for this :-)

I have to say though that lag issues with the servers being stateside (at present) are really irritating, making one on one combat very difficult at times.

+1

This is my worry too, we dont need more fps games that have 10-20 players.
We need hundreds of players!.

Why have they got rid of the sanctuary in PS2, what was wrong with the sanctuary.?

I get the feeling that SOE, listen to too many critics and cater for everyone who moans just like they did in planetside 1.

Probably to speed up the gameplay for newcomers, to make it more appealing to the MW / BF2 generation.

I can kind of see why, even though I don't like it personally, as PS1 was quite daunting at first.

Mainly because blokes seem alergic to reading instructions / manuals, so they get annoyed when it doesn't click in 30secs & uninstall / badmouth the game, etc...

The sanc made it feel much more like a living gameworld imho.

The 'spawning on squad leaders' is much more worrying though if I've understood it correctly.

The thought of JeffBeefJaw or SuperSchnecke acting as a mobile routerpad isn't a good one...:p

There's a bandwidth setting buried in the game settings, and it used to default to something stupidly low. Check that to make sure it's not throttling your connection.

It probably is just the high latency, but you never know.

See I used to prefer the NC rifle over the TR cycler, was it called the gauss rifle? It had a smaller clip and fired slower but it was good for long range due to the reduced recoil.

Close/Medium though the cycler was unbeatable, you could simply put more bullets into your enemy if you were careful to tap tap tap the trigger.

The ammount of hours I put in to planetside was mad, I hope this one will get me as engrossed. NC representing!

Wow the graphics looks fantastic on this game!

Never actually played the first installment so looking forward to this :)

Bit too lazy to read through the thread but when is this penned for a release?

Haha the abuse that Lasher users were given, 'SPAM NOOB GUN NO SKILL' comes to mind ;)

Was horrible to face a Lasher user blanketing a busy doorway, the splash :(
