Pro TR here, just re-reading some of the posts... and I've noticed there's literally little to no love for the VS. Figures, really... bunch of Barney loving scum bags.

I don't think having a gun which spews pixy dust and light is grounds to be liked to be honest! :P

What the... Planetside is still online!? Not sure what made me think it had been taken offline, just not heard about in years.

I remember the first time I heard about it was in PC Gamer I think, there was a sneak peak and it sounded awesome. It was the fact that so many people could play in one area, it was unheard of at that time iirc.

The game didn't disappoint :)
 
I can't remember how I found it, but I remember I heard about it WAYYY before it went beta - was seriously looking forward to this game, and when it came out I loved it as soon as I figured out the certification stuff and load outs/hacking terminals etc.

Always was a great game. Hundreds of people fighting each other in one area, with proper tactical control and coordination :-) The graphics aren't the best anymore in the original, but it's still very fun to play with so many people online :-)

Mr. Krugga... stunned you never heard about it! When it was being talked about I remember the graphics showing players crouched in grass (kinda unheard of for a MMO at the time), and it looked awesome. Still THE best MMOFPS there is, if there is even another out there.
 
Always liked the VS, but nobody would ever join me, so ended up with the slow, clunky NC all the way.

Hover tanks, jet packing maxes, I-win sparkle guns, what's not to like :D
 
It was nice the three factions had different weapons that were pretty amazing.

TR = Pounder? Max, the nade spamming machine was epic at holding backdoors.
NC = Jackhammer, most annoying weapon to go up against :D
VS = Magmower, before they nerfed it or Lasher :D

There was nothing funnier than standing on a hill one second and being mown down by a silent tank the next :D it always cracked me up.

The Pounder was awesome when it was the AI variant!
 
The Lasher is pink and shoots disco balls around corners or warping n00bs that aim at your feet. The Jackhammer is used by 3rd person whores who hide round corners and kill you in 1 shot. The TR Chaingun is a realmans weapon.

Isn't there a D2D link on the main page of the planetside page?

As you say Direct2Drive don't have it anymore :-( No idea where you can get it sorry. You could try buying 2nd hand disks?
