Any official OCUK outfit I can join? Not in game yet as it was still downloading when I left for work.. :)

There isn't an OCUK outfit, the people posting on here are pretty well spread across servers and factions. I myself play NC (New Conglomerate) on the Miller server.

Probably best to pick a server (I think Miller and possibly Ceres are generally the most populated but I only play on Miller) and a faction then let us know what you picked and hopefully someone who is the same faction/server can help you out if needed. General questions anyone can answer of course.

In terms of factions pick the one whose appearance/weapons you like the look of and think you'll enjoy really. Perhaps even make a character of each and have a go with the weapons/vehicles in the VR training area to start with. This can be accessed at a warp terminal which you'll find in the warp gate on each continent, use the terminal and select VR training near the bottom. There you can try out all weapons/vehicles for a faction.

Note: Character names are unique across the entire game, not limited to a single server.

All factions by and large are just as effective, just slightly better or worse in small areas none of which really make them a bad choice.

You've definitely got the right thing in mind by looking for an outfit, the game is 110% better whilst playing in one with friends. Perhaps look on the SOE PS2 recruitment forums and see if you can find an outfit you like the look of, or once you've made a character just see if anyone here can point you to one.

I played Planetside back in the day, was never brilliant at it but loved playing support and driving support vehicles. Always played NC before but I'll read up and see what looks like the most fun mix.

Obviously try everything but if support is really your thing then there is plenty you can do. Classes like Combat Medic and Engineer are really key to keeping your squad alive, stocked with ammo and repairing vehicles and max units. Pair up with a good Max player as an engineer and you can have a similar dynamic to the Medic/Heavy from TF2.

Every squad will want one or two of them pretty much all the time, how much you play them as offensive or hanging back keeping your squad mates going is a matter of playstyle.

Vehicle wise you could get into flying galaxies or drive a sunderer (armoured transport which can hold 12 people), this can be fitted out to act as a spawn point when deployed or act as a mobile ammo resupply unit for vehicles or mobile repair for vehicles (mainly used for spawning though).

If you do pick NC again, plenty of great outfits on Miller to choose from. Or try Ceres which seems to be having a bit of a population boom atm.

Any idea of the Nvidia code I have is only applicable to one character or on an account basis? Doesn't seem to say anywhere!

Edit: finally found it confirmed - character only, not account wide unlocks

I'd say the alerts are ruining it. Player count has dropped dramatically since they introduced alert system. Also I find half of my outfit only ever play alerts then log off afterwards which is annoying.

Been enjoying using my Cloaked Flash with Fury the last few days.

Reck up tons of tons of kills with it and 200 certs away from the final level of cloak, the only problem is the handling still sucks so much.

Even when you're majorly outnumbered the alerts are fun, it's definitely a step in the right direction.

We just need more of a reason to fight when the alerts aren't on. Rather than the usual grouping of everyone at the crown.

Training? you mean VR? that lets you play with unlocks it really doesnt teach you how to play the game at all, its just a firing range with access to some toys.

How bases work, sheilds, genarators, SCUs etc. Its more simple than PS1 (allot) but its still not easy for total noobs and I've had to explain it to allot of people over the last 6 months.....

The base cap mechanics right now are kinda mesed up, nothing to control cap times (influence or people on cap points) and the new lanes system isnt in yet.

First rule of planetside (1 or 2) is roll with an outfit and stick with the group, even learning how to manage your spawns is important.
Planetside is a game where your K/D can suck and you can still be doing something very important for the overall war, its not about being top of the scoreboard at the end of a fight.

I Play on Ceres as a Vanu and its a pretty good server.

It seems fine to me, there's lulls now and then - but it really kicks off around Alerts, the factions seem to be pretty balanced in numbers as well.

Don't shoot the generators.
Don't stand beside the generator when it's making that "I'm about to blow" sound. I got about a dozen teamkills in a row once from idiots surrounding a gen I'd compromised, shooting the hell out of it.

Everything else will take care of itself :p

Don't shoot terminals whilst you're capping a base either.

That is my No1 pet hate with people. They see any kind of enemy terminal in a base & shoot the crap out of it.

I TK people if I see them doing it as they're complete morons when Infiltrators (which I mostly) play can hack the damn things.

It gives a kill reward doesnt it? Havent played for a couple of months, but if they wanted to stop this behaviour they should just remove the reward.
