*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

Which server and side you guys on above, sounds like fun, don't mind starting a fresh char, what's those added perks after tut you speak of?

Miller NC

They're talking about the new player survey when you first enter the gameworld now. Depending on your answers you're given a free gun for a class. Nothing worth starting over for though if you're say rank 10 or higher.

You can do the questionnaire on any character, it doesn't have to be a new one.
On my high BR character, it was either triggered by a button accessed from help or by typing in a "/" command into chat. I got guns and cammos etc.

So much fun had last night, big battle with TR inside a dome that was shielded. The only thing is, how do you remove their spawn? We had all the flags and control of the dome but they were protected in a building which we couldn't access.

Might have changed since I played it but you used to have to take down the generator and the SCU in the Biolab in order to stop them spawning and to bring the shields to their spawn room down.

This is one of the messiest areas of PS2 at the moment. It varies from cont to cont and also base to base.

Most of the time your only course of action is to take the cap points and hold them whilst camping the spawns to stop reinforcements retaking the points.

Some bases have shield gens to take down and some have spawn generators that will disable spawning.

Sat with your gun pointing at a spawn point while someone shoots at you from behind a one way shield isn't my idea of good game design.

Yeah, I mostly gave up with capturing bases on PS2 in the end and joined an outfit which goes around finding fights where we are hopelessly outnumbered in order to farm tonnes of enemies, often we were called the "Farm Squad" :D

But anyway, the capture mechanics do need to be altered to avoid the boredom of massive zergs which were all too common at the point which I stopped playing this game (might fire it up again soon though, it's been too long).

The thing that's great about PS2 is the vast range of options and ways to play. If you get bored of one thing you can do something entirely different.

For instance, I usually play engineer or HA so for a change it can be really exciting to play Stalker infiltrator and just hunt people while hiding in the shadows in out of the way places.

Playing light assault is also a really refreshing change - with all the possibilities in biolabs and finding out of the way places to shoot from.

And then of course there are all the vehicles. Just pick one and have fun. So many different load-outs, so many different ways to play.

And, of course, I've not even mentioned faction changing. Going from my Vanu to my NC character is a massive shock. Totally dfferent and a great way to really refresh things.

I've been Battle Rank 100 for over 6 months and I still haven't a clue, I just run around killing **** in the Biolabs and run to a letter if it's flashing.

I've been looking for a decent MMOFPS for a while and put off trying Planetside 2 a while back due to people telling me it was poorly optimised and ran like poo. Now after reading through the last few pages of this thread I'm beginning to think about trying it.

So, is it worth a go?

Last year they put development of new content on hold for months and optimised things, performance is a lot better after that. Is it perfect? no, but it is definitely worth trying. It can be fun running solo but keep in mind it really shines when you're part of an outfit working together in those massive battles.

Decided to join the Vanu Sovereignty, as they appear to have lower population, lasers and i like the music, it's kinda Mass Effect-y.

Thanks :D We really do need pop increase.

Add me in game 'nitty' I can pull maxed out vehicles for you to try etc and can run with the outfit I am in if you want next time you're on.

Will do. There is one planet VS are doing terribly on, and it looks like TR and NC have pushed VS into a corner.

If you liked BF2/BF2142 you'll love PS2. It's the spiritual successor to the 'proper' BF games, imo. Even more so as BF3/4 totally destroyed the BF series.

Oh, and it's free as well. In most cases the starter guns are the best in the game (I still use the stock magrider main gun and the Pulsar C is my favourite engineer gun). No need for any purchases at all.

Currently sat at 3.8GB of a 9.5GB download. Damn my 10Mb connection.
