*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

SonyOnline.com expired this morning and because for some reason every other SOE domain is connected to that it affected everything from SOE's websites, forums, emails and games. It's all fixed now so nothing to worry about.

To be honest, am not really looking forward to the merge, it's just means more mindless zergs fighting other zergs (DIG and KOTV, who can spot the difference)

Maybe it will fix Continent Locking and keep all the maps open then I would welcome that since being forced to fight on two maps all the time is crap.

Just think of all the kills with the HE Prowler though IW. Although I do agree, I think Miller is ok at the moment with just the right amount.

I hope VS don't turn into a super zerg empire now with DIG, KOTV etc I remember when they joined Miller for an alert and there was way too many VS.

Wow, just looking at KOTV they have had 500+ members log in over the last 24 hours...

Being a tank driver is hard these days since bigger the battle, smaller the render distance becomes so you always getting zapped by some I said a bad word with his lazerbeam/rocket and you can't see him, moving any closer to see the enemy so they render is just suicide.

KOTV is the daddy :D

Yes sometimes it's a zerg although the majority of alerts we play in each platoon has each squad capping different places most of the time. Only usually at biolobs or techplants when we encounter a lot of resistance does a zerg roll in and even then it doesn't mean we will win.

Looking forward to it :) VS on Miller have been underpopped since launch, not too bad lately but I remember a few months on end where I gave up as we would rarely see above 28% in prime time.

What are the NC and TR pops like on Woodman? Any 'top' players we should look out for? Do you have a Daddy? xD I hear that Mouukas is pretty good for NC.

Not sure about top players I don't really get into all that but I'm sure both TR and NC have top players. Population varies, TR sometimes outpop us, don't think NC has done for a while.

It's a shame with NC as out of the 3 factions I prefer blue and the style of their outfits and vehicles but for some reason they seem under popped on every server? Guess it's to do with people thinking VS and TR are more OP?

I've played VS on Woodman since the start though and put money into that char so I don't really want to switch now.

ffs when I launch the installer it either goes to a black window or says it cannot connect?
any ideas?
Same here. Some of the SOE websites are down too. Plus I can't access my son's DC Universe Online (also SOE) either.
Reinstalling did nothing so I'm assuming it's a problem SOE end.

What sort of PC's do you guys have?

I'm running a Q6600 system and as you can expect, I don't get good FPS so my infantry game play suffers badly. I can't afford a new system but second hand I can do.

Looking at other players videos and seeing how smooth their game play is, it's like a other game.

I seen some i5/i7 systems in MM sell for under £300.

3770k @ 4.8ghz and a GTX 780 slightly overclocked, as with any system in PS2 in massive fights it can drop to 30 or so and it's always the CPU limiting it when I use the fps checker to see. Quite understandable as with any MMO how much strain hundreds of player calculations will put on the CPU. My advice would be to get a new i7 first, even a 2700k would be a huge upgrade, unless your GPU is really old.

In signature, plays PS2 maxed out with no problems.

Oooh boy, really? I've noticed that even with a sub, I can't keep all my grenades and deployables at full these days. Especially when a typical session involves switching between medic (revive grenades) engi (mines) and light assault (c4). That's without ever pulling a max.

Mouth - sour taste :(

Spec in sig, 3570K is clocked at 4.5ghz.

The most cost efficient upgrade would be a second hand i5 2500k, Planetside 2 doesn't benefit from hyperthreading so i7/i5 doesn't really make a difference.

I have a i5 2500k @ 4.0ghz in the living room with a 560Ti and it gets roughly the same bottleneck as my main 3570k CPU (40fps in huge fights at max), although with the 560Ti I have to run lower textures etc

So I would look out for that CPU and a motherboard, cheapo second hand deal. Will be a great upgrade from you q6600.

Seems the latest patch notes shows that they adding and thinking of allowing players to spend money to refill player resources.

Sounds like they aren't making enough money through subs / in-game store.

Give them 6-12 months and we'll be paying to reload our guns next.

Get yourself an I5 sandybridge mate. 2500k or if you can find one a 2600k and a decent z78 mobo and some decent ddr3 ram you should be able to get it all for around £175 What you will need to watch is you don't become GPU bound then. So what GPU are you using ?

I can run the game on a mixture of medium-high shadows on low and hold almost 60fps. But even with my setup I still get frame drops when the zergs roll in its more an engine than hardware issue. Unless you run everything on LOW. But sod that the game looks crap. Even after the OMFG patch the game could still do with some optimization and proper multithreading.

You wont see much improvment above a sandybridge though mate so thats what you should be looking at only difference really will be in the pocket. IMO

Also I went from a q6600 mate to my current system and it plays much better. But still I cant max the game and hold 60fps I think its impossible. Due to engine limitations.

I don't believe that for a second. Unless your playing at 640x480. I have a better system than you and still get 30fps drops and most my settings are on medium. press ALT+f next time your in a 250vs250 man battle and watch that CPU get chocked.

There's people in my outfit with I7's and Titan combos 16 gig of ram still it chugs when the Zergs roll into town.
