*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

The current test server build is 13.9GB (slightly smaller then the current live build). Everyone will need to re-download the whole game again. Plan ahead if you want to play tomorrow!

Really excited for this patch. Performance has been a problem since Planetside 1 launched. Now finally hardware and software have reached the point were we should be able to have to massive battles at an enjoyable framerate.

Hoping to see lots of Nanite System Operative filling the Vanu ranks on Miller. Most times I've played in recent years we've had the lowest population. With the Nanite System Operative being used for population balancing (at least to start with) this should even the population out.

Is this the DX11 release? If so, i'll reinstall the game as i've heard DX11 has brought much better performance.

Sounds good - played this ages ago. Might have to fire it up again.

Any guides for this? Super lost on what kit i should be using haha

Most up to date guide I believe is Iridar's: http://iridar.net/planetside2/beginner-guides/
Will be missing the latest changes to the game because Iridar was busy with other projects.

Really impressed with the patch. DirectX11 does deliver the much needed performance boost that has long been overdue. Getting higher and much more consistent frame rates in every situation. A few hiccups and stutters here and there and a whole bunch of new bugs have appeared. Fortunately nothing game breaking or looks like it will take weeks of serious troubleshooting to fix.

You can enter the code NSOPS2019 in game via the Depot to unlock a free weapon. https://www.planetside2.com/news/ps2-soldier-bonuses-weapon-double-xp-april-2019

are peeps still playing this from OCUK? i see the old Planetside 1 is now tomb stoned :( ow the memorys of osher and the bridge battles :)
started repalcting this and enjoying it some what.

I still play it occasionally, and it's still as frustrating as ever.

Getting shot 'round corners' due to lag never gets old, and I'll always hate snipers with a passion.

Even more so when the uncloak 20yds in front of you & 1-shot you in the face :p

Planetside Arena was supposed to be the stepping stone to Planetside 3. Has anyone even heard about the game, or is it dead already? I guess Planetside 3 not happening anytime soon?

Planetside 2 has had its moments but hard to see any future for the franchise anymore.

Planetside Arena did land on steam and thats about it. Its an ok game but was not needed when PS2 allready existed.
Arena was never pimped as a stepping stone to PS3 it was simply an easy way to make money using existing asets in game modes that the masses like.

PS2 has a healthyish player base as long as you play at prime time.
PS2 is also now being handled by its own studio again with a dedicated team who have allready starting working on breathing life into PS2. PS3 was mentioned and I imagine its on the radar and thats it.
PS2 didnt deliver on a lot of its promised gameplay and they made some bad decisions but its still the only game to offer that style of gameplay at that scale and still look good.

Daybreak Games has restructured after the disaster that was Planetside Arena. 200+ staff have gone and they have organized into distinct entities for each of the majors franchises (Everquest, Planetside etc). Rogue Planet Games is now in charge of developing Planetside 2 with Daybreak remaining as Publisher, logistical support and customer support. So nothing has really changed apart from the new name of the remaining Devs working on Planetside 2.

I'm as big a Planetside fan as you'll find. Even I haven't played for over 6 months now. The reason is we are expecting this month a major patch for Planetside 2 - the biggest in years. Restricted to a closed beta for invited players from the community at the moment.

They will probably take a large chunk of the assets from Planetside Arena to upgrade the visuals etc. Game play wise; hints are pointing to Orbital Sanctuaries, Bastion Fleet Carriers and maybe a new continent too. All rumours, leaks and guesswork at the moment. Does look like something exciting is to be announced soon.

The battle royale-focused sci-fi shooter PlanetSide Arena is intended to be the "stepping stone" to PlanetSide 3, its developers have said.

Weird that steam charts are showing couple of players but the game has dissappeared.Anyway Arena must be dead by now. Has it been pulled off from the steam? Been a huge fan of Planetside for years and would love to see growing population and player count but the numbers have been going downwards for years now. Fleet Carriers and new continent plus some other stuff have been promised long time ago and they just failing year after year.

I've dipped back in again, there's been significant enough changes since I last played for it to keep me entertained, it just has a completely different feel and scale to most shooters. They're also soon to be introducing a new tank, the colossus.

Seeing people like ChickenCurrys still leading VS platoons brings back memories!

every time I try this again I find myself wishing the guns where just _BETTER_ I'm not sure what it is about it but everything just feels like I can't apply damage at all unless it's a BR or sniper.

Completely forgot about this game to be honest. I played a lot of it when it was new, surprised it's still going. What's player count like now?

Not played in years myself, poured a lot of money into the game as well. I think they merged servers in Europe when I last played, so they should still be full enough. Via Steam theres an average of 2k playing.... plus im assuming more who dont use the steam platform.

Might give it another go, really miss the team work from the first especially tanks etc, find it a bit too cluttered as well personally.
Used to wrack up some kill assists driving tanks and made some good friends to play with.
