Any ideas guys was working fine until today
Got below error
""There was a problem getting the list of files for download. An update may be in progress. Please try again in 20-30 minutes""

Then played for a while and got the error again now after fresh win10 install still not working

Cheers

It's an issue at the moment. It seems to be a DNS related issue. There are temporary workarounds that people have posted on the daybreak forums, but I would just wait for them to release an official fix.

Had that issue all last night but seems to be resolved now.

Been about 2 years since I've played this now, but recently a mate has been saying I must fire it up again. What are some of the major changes (if any) that have happened in the last couple of years?

Hmmm, there's a few...
Apart from balance changes and a lot of base updates (they kinda went over most of the bases and re-made a few. Similar feeling flow but they feel a bit more "alive" with a bit of extra customisation. Some are completely re-made and unique.) There's a few new infantry weapons, the (very) new construction system, there's the lattice structure on all maps rather than just 1 and the alerts/etc have a bit more balance.

Vehicles - not that much changed, some new weapon systems, upgrades. The sundie has some interesting upgrades (mobile vehicle repair, mobile ammo dispenser, cloak to hide it) which allows for some interesting tactics (sundie packs with everyone doing repairs can be amusing for example.
There's also the Valkyrie which is a 6 man air transport, built more like a Huey with the squad able to hang out the side and use weapons.

The construction update seems to have brought quite a bit of new blood in, it's generally fairly well populated and there's always good fights to be had.

Performance is much better than it was and the game is improving with the devs actively working on stuff.

Still thousands of players. Miller server is great at prime time hours (UK).

Also - so much this.

Performance died for a while but the games genuinely in a good place again now. Daybreak have picked it all up and got the hang of getting it running well, they're pushing updates, balancing, fixing and there's always amazing fights to be had 19:00-22:30 most nights and for most of the weekend. Outside of that, it varies a bit.

I tried coming back to this but it doesnt feel the same anymore. I Used to be in TRAF which was one of the biggest squads on the server. Teamwork was outstanding, maybe i should try it again and join a squad.

Heres a vid to give you an example of a typical Ops night for TRAF. Is it still this good?

Who is this muppet on Miller with KOTV? I log in for a few mins as haven't played in ages. Help kill a Scythe, I recognise the pilot name... I then take him out twice more again with my AA Max. On the second time, he says he has reported me for cheating. The third time, he actually comes straight at me, so I strafe with the max and he dies. Again... I am still a cheat although I just bested him 1 on 1 head to head.

According to him, he has a PHD and MSc.... anyone actually know him?

I detest cheaters. I detest that this muppet was having a bad day and decides to report me for having fun. Really spoiled my attempt at having some form of enjoyment.

Plenty of good ops nights still happening. You might have to log a few times to get a feel for when they're running but certainly on miller there's freelancers union (FU) and ELME (terran) usually running pretty tight squads/platoons (to a level of alpha/beta are foot, charlies tank, delta are air support, that sort of thing OR each squad has targets to achieve a larger overall objective, sometimes a "we've got orders to go down swinging so allied platoon can push X" order gets thrown. It's... often pretty tactical and well planned).

Planetside 2 really needs a map that's Infiltrator / sniper-free.

Something similar to the Battle Isles from PS1 would be ideal.

Just exclude them, along with the Galaxy, Lib and MBT, as infantry fights would be much more fun without all of them.

Or give them their own Snipers-Only map where they can sit 1500m from each other & single shot to their hearts content! :p

+ 1 for that

I utterly gave up on this. How is it now? Worth playing?

You'll probably still love what you used to about it.

And you'll also probably still hate what you used to as well :)

PS2 is one of those games you can play for a bit, eventually get  at mechanics / fights, and you then stop playing out of frustration.

A few weeks/months later, you start playing it again and enjoy it for a while until it makes you  Again.

In a good fight - there's still nothing like it.

In a bad fight - log off & play something else.
