*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

What an absolute pile of crap. Might be a great idea but the execution is terrible and it makes the game unplayable imo. Graphics look like a PS2. Laggy gameplay. Lots of graphical glitches and flickering. Uninstalled after 30 minutes.

Maybe your PC is only as fast as a Playstation 2 as i have none of those problems. :)

I think a lot of players expect Battlefield 3 level of visuals from every modern shooter but PS2 just would not work when tracking 2,000 players per continent.

Admittedly it would be fantastic to have Frostbite 2's fidelity and effects in a game of PS2's scale but when you consider the server spec required to run a single 64-player instance of BF3 and try to achieve that with 2,000 players per continent on a server that can hold 6,000 players it'd bring most hardware to it's knees.

Yes the game is still buggy, yes the server stability needs work (especially the EU servers) and the store/unlocks need fixing but once they iron them out you'll find a game that's more rewarding and intricate than any CoD/BF game type could achieve, especially when they only run 1/30th of the player numbers that PS2 can.

PS2 needs to be given time by the player as its not a typical pick up, spray & pray game.

My tuppence anyway....

It's a really good game. The vastness is just incredible. However during intense fire-fights it does absolutely destroy my CPU to the extent that it's pretty much unplayable :( To be fair I'm still using an E7200 :p

To be fair the type of players that decide it isn't for them after 30mins are probably the exact players SoE don't want playing the game, there's BCoD type games for instant thrills types.

That's a ridiculous statement to make. It's not too much to expect the game to work and when it dont people will complain about it. A game that encourages players to become full members who pay subs better work well, period. It does SoE no favors to give "new players" a negative first impression. Gamers have more choices now then in the past, Just take a look at how many F2P games are out there, or just cheap games in general.

That being said, I like this game and think it has potential and will stick with it. Only when it's fixed and working well will I consider paying subs. Their official forum makes interesting reading in regards to current issues with the game.

It's not really ridiculous at all though. To expect Planetside2 to deliver an experience within 30mins is ridiculous, heck usually it takes a platoon of tanks longer then that to even get to a battle, they obviously knew that when making the game so I very much doubt they were trying to make the game for a market that gives the game 30mins to impress.

A quick tip for those having a bit of trouble seeing where the real action is at any time. On the map there's a checkbox that is unticked by default called "Enemy Activity" put it on and it gives a much better view of where the action is.

Well it's working fine on my machine and other than PS1 it's the best game I've ever played. It's already provided some of my best gaming moments ever - including leading a wing of Scythes and Libs tonight to the Airwolf theme tune!

Re performance - I got in the before the tech test as one of the "established outfit" testers then played through early tech test, beta and right into launch - the advances they have made with optimization have been immense. In tech test I really didn't think they were going to pull off 2000 players per continent - but here we are - and it's working. And they've not stopped yet - more optimisations are on the way. Lets not forget Sony have a five year plan for this game - they will improve upon what is already a mind blowingly awesome game.

Now give me my Android app to I can command my outfit from work!

Most BF3 players stare at the top/bottom of an escalator on Metro for hundreds of hours on end; so they can **** off with what they expect from other games tbh :)

Been on Woodman as VS most of the evening. Not had any amazing outfit play unfortunatley, but just happy to blow stuff up for a few hours, will try and find a voice squad tommorow. I want to move over to Miller but I don't want to sit in a queue for so long everytime I want to get into the battle.

Just finished for the night and that was the most fun I have had playing a game in ages.

Spent 2 hours holding an outpost with a small group of maybe 30 or 40 Van. We repelled every attack fighting tooth and nail for 2 hours solid. Then voice comms went crazy people screaming "ZERG!!" and around 100 vehicles and 20+ aircraft rolled in outta nowhere and we were slaughtered. Held on for maybe 20 mins but it was hopless :D

Playing on Miller and while the 10min que to get ingame is annoying once you are in I have found the game very playable. Only going to bed because the server went down again heh.

Woodman server, playing with my outfit. It seems they still need to 'find themselves', and get properly organised.. but it's good fun. Was holding the top floor of Eisa Tech Plant for a fair few hours for a laugh... sooooooo many kills.

Once I am fully clued up on whats going on, I am going to run some sweet squad voip action running on miller TW side. Used to squad lead in bf2 and bfbc2 for years. Am really looking forward to being able to run a sucessful squad again, have played in some good squads/platoons and it has been awesome!!

here is a little tank platoon that was put together earlier :p

Am not sure how to resize it, have had far too many beers... deal with it :)

If the image is larger than 1280 pixels wide then please resize, link only or put in spoiler tags. Thank you.

Right time for some serious fun. Any outfit looking for a light assault/heavy guy? I'm with TR on miller.

Desperate for some outfit action!
