*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

Is the Unit 'clan' from the first thread still running and how popular is it? Just downloaded the game on Sunday and got 10 hours of addictive play with it. I'm on the rebellious NC faction, but at level 6, but I can quickly get up to speed on the Unit if it is still around...

To be fair IronWarrior, it's not entirely pay to win, the default weapons are all more than capable. In fact the majority of weapons I use are the defaults.

Granted you need to spend money for more fun things, but without question you can play the game quite effectively without spending a single thing :)

It's pay to win. If you got no life and don't mind playing all day and night to earn 700 too 1000 certs to unlock a weapon then you will enjoy this.

If not, prepared to spend lots of money to get weapons.

Ive not paid anything in yet (albeit im happy to chuck a ton in once I understand what im buying) and im still able to compete with higher BRs than me in 1v1s and im now also coming out good in some 1v2/3s

However your post intrigues me - as a HA class, what weapons are a must buy and Sony shall be entering my bank account tonight :D

Im on the TR btw

How do you tend to play mehuk?

If you like to stand off at range, then get the TMG-50 plus all upgrades, HV ammo, compensator, 2X or 3.4X scope, foregrip.

If you like CQC then the MSW-R is a great rifle, high ROF got a good deal of recoil so the compensator and foregrip are worth it again.

For an all rounder, check out the T16, I hear it's pretty good.

Best bet is to trial each weapon in different scenarios, you get 30 minutes per weapon but you can only trial a weapon once every 8 hours?

Whilst I'm not saying don't buy new guns, and as I play NC I can't really help you on recommendations. Don't expect it to be black and white difference pay to win and dominate the battlefield like Ironwarrior seems to think.

As you've found the starter weapons are very capable, obviously getting some attachments for them helps improve them. If you're comfortable with them then there is absolutely nothing wrong with sticking with them. Other guns in the same weapon class are aimed at providing play style differences, one might have a high rate of fire making it good for short to medium range but at the expense of long range damage and accuracy. Another might be better at long range but have a smaller ammo clip and slower rate of fire. They're all about trading one quality for something else, so you're basically looking for the qualities that will suit the way you play or the situation you're facing at that moment.

Finally, always trial a gun before you buy it. You can do this by going to the store/depot, find the gun you want to try, click unlock then at the bottom of the next screen will be a blue button to trial it for 30 minutes. You will need to go to a terminal and add it to your loadout then resupply to equip it. You can trial each weapon every 30 days, and one weapon every day. (those time periods could be off slightly but you get the general idea.)

Cheers all, I got the MSW I think, the 100 cert gun.. I use that with a grip and NV sight and it seems ok for what I do... though I might get the ammo upgrade for a bigger punch.

Can I buy certs at all? Or are they just earned?

Just earned, although you can buy XP % boosts for 1 hour, 1 day or 7 days iirc.

Don't bother with the soft point ammo imo, all it does is extend the range for minimum damage by a few meters, and substantially reduces max damage for ranges above that.

So default ammo on the MSW-R you do :

143 @ 10m
125 @ 65m

Soft point does

143 @ 15m
112 @ 65m

Something along those lines, it doesn't actually do more damage and it severely restricts mid range engagement, imo it is too restrictive. Only time I'd choose soft point is for the SMG as it solely an up close weapon. (is SP available for SMGs?)

Certs are 250xp each, so obviously if you're getting xp boosts or subscribing you earn them faster.

Re: Soft point ammo. What Vader says is correct, the only thing to add is it also reduces the bullet velocity so you may need to lead your target at times. Though like Vader I only use this on an SMG in very close anyway so don't notice this.

OK cool, didn't realise certs were linked to XP.. makes sense.

So best to get membership then for the 25% tick.

Cheers for the tips, hope my TR reign of terror dosent come back to haunt you out there :p

I would not recommend using the foregrip, unless you have a penchant for firing with ironsights.

It does improve stability in ironsights, so it improves range firing, but for most situations, the red dot lazer sight is a much better option as it is deadly accurate firing from the hip and you have no delay in raising the ironsights.

I guess it depends on your playstyle.

What server are you on? If your considering subscriptions etc you should definitely be looking for an outfit if you aren't already in one.

Still love the game but there is so much wrong with it.

You love the game, great so do I. No it isn't anywhere near perfect but nobody (devs included) said it was, but no need to get so enraged about everything is there?

It also largely depends on the gun, some have lots of horizontal recoil, some have hardly any. But also as you say, playstyle, what you'll be doing with it.

Need to find that spreadsheet with all the gun data again...
